Have taken cold and flu, lemon and honey glycrine and imbruprofen but nothing is helping and tonsils are still swelling. Please help, the crying is getting really annoying.

Hi,

Painful swallowing is usually caused by one of the following reasons:
- Tonsillitis.
- Epiglottitis.
- Aphthous or aphthoid ulcers.
- Severe pharyngitis.
- Inflammation of any structure with or without infection in the swallowing pathways can cause painful swallowing:
I would advise you the following.
- Take Ibuprofen as per your wight three to four times a day.
- Take a PPI like Omeprazole.
- Povidone iodine gargles.
- Continue the antibiotic whichever suits you.
- Get admitted as you will need intravenous fluids to maintain hydration and electrolyte balance as it is better to avoid taking anything orally.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
