Hello, You have ovarian cyst on your left ovary. You also have a cyst in the right ovary. Small ovarian cysts that are benign go away on their own, treatment is not required. However, larger cysts need to be clinically evaluated and imaging test should be done, like pelvic ultrasound, tumor marker tests, CT, MRI, etc. Commonly hormonal contraceptives, birth control pills are prescribed by the treating doctor. But, birth control pills won t shrink an existing cyst. It prevents ovulating and chances of getting more ovarian cysts are also reduced. Your treating doctor may suggest removing a cyst that is large and causes causes pain and discomfort. Some cysts can be removed without removing the ovary (cystectomy) but sometimes ovary is removed (oophorectomy). Surgery can often be done using minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy) with a laparoscope. Solid ovarian cysts growing after menopause are commonly cancerous (malignant). Biopsy / tumor marker test should be done. The treatment will depend on the stage of the tumor and the severity of the symptoms.
