Cyst

What is Cyst?

A cyst is a closed sac, having a distinct membrane and division compared to the nearby tissue. Hence, it is a cluster of cells that have grouped together to form a sac (not unlike the manner in which water molecules group together, forming a bubble); however, the distinguishing aspect of a cyst is that the cells forming the "shell" of such a sac are distinctly abnormal (in both appearance and behaviour) when compared to all surrounding cells for that given location. It may contain air, fluids, or semi-solid material. A collection of pus is called an abscess, not a cyst. Once formed, a cyst may sometimes resolve on its own. When a cyst fails to resolve it may need to be removed by surgery but this will depend on what type of cyst it is and where in the body it has formed.

Hi,
You can just check TSH levels. If level is normal, you need not take medicines, you can get cyst removed. If TSH is high, you need to continue medicines.
Wish you good health.

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

First of all, PCOS is a syndrome meaning that it is a group of findings (including but necessarily including cystic appearing ovaries). It really comes down to a problem related to irregularity in terms of when you ovulate. Many women with...

I am having a laproscopy this Thursday to remove a bilocular cyst from my left ovary it measures 54,2x23.6x29.2mm. The cyst wall measures 3.1mm in thickness. The septum measure 2.9mm in thickness. The left locule of the cyst contains a solid area measuring about 13.3mm in diameter and also a fluid level with low echogenicity fluid nature. The left ovary cannot been seen separate from the cyst. I am 54 yrs and started bleeding for for a few days the are taking my rt ovary and fallipoan tubes aswell no cyst on my rt ovary

doctor1 MD

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Risk of malignant ovarian cyst keeps on increasing as age advances.
So it is better to get your bilateral ovaries removed to avoid any further complication.
Take care

My child has a cyst in the hollow area above the sternal notch I believe. In the middle dip area above where the clavicles meet at the very top of the chest! Lower then the thyroid in the neck . I took her to urgent care because her dr is out of town until next week. The dr said it was too low to be the thyroid and not an area where there is anything! He said it feels like a cyst just floating there. When she yells or coughs I see it pop out under the skin. What Could this be?

doctor1 MD

Hi..it could be a cystic hygroma...or a diveticulum arising from the trachea like laryngocoele...better show to an ent specialist for proper diagnosis and management...

I was diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst that is growing in size. My question is, could the cause of this cyst be related to my stress disorder? Now I am being currently diagnosed with a Dissociative Disorder . Basically, I feel the cyst is a manifestation of my psychological trauma not the other way around. I have been diagnosed with Complex PTSD. Now I have an arachnoid cyst that is growing in my right anterior middle cranial fossa.....whatever that really means. The right side of my brain. I was first diagnosed in 2006. The cyst was smaller then. Now I had a recent MRI because of symptoms my doctor was concerned about. Now she is sending me to a neuro surgeon. So my question to you is again, does this cyst represent my past abuse and is showing itself in my brain as a cyst? I know my psychological symptoms are not because of this cyst. I think I need validation from a doctor s stand point. Does sever psychological stress and trauma cause brain cysts?

doctor1 MD

Hi Rachel, this is Dr Arpan,

Any psychological stress or psychological trauma does not causes any kind of brain cyst itself,
but if you are having such cyst in some specific ares of brain then you may have some psychological disturbances or you may be more susceptible to minor psychosocial...

I am 83 years of age. I am 5'6"" and 190 lbs. My Dr. recently discovered a cyst on my pancreas which tested non malignant for now. Three days after my test, I started having bloody stool and feeling terrible. I went to emergency and was admitted only to find out I had a broken blood vessel in my stomach which they said was not related to the other procedure. I spent 5 days in the hospital and have not been able to eat. I find it hard to swallow anything and am still not feeling well even though I am at home now. The Dr. clamped the blood vessel. I just don't understand that I am still feeling bad. Is there something else I should be looking for?

my mom is suffering from ovarian cancer
2 years she got operated & got 6 cycles of chemotherapy

aftr a year of operation..she had 2 small cysts in the ovary & they wer neutral

afr 3 or 4 months one of the cysts got disappeared but one exseted & latr now developed in to cancerous cyst
its size was of 40\40 mm
& got increased to 75\75 mm

after 2nd phase of chemotherapy...that cyst got reduced back to 40/40mm now
doctors said that the cyst should be reduced completely...but it didnt even aftr complete 6 cycles of chemotherapy for 2nd phase...

can we conduct a operation now as even cancerous r no more ...& remove that cyst??
because that cyst might later develop back to cancerous as it happened last time
doctors said that the neutral crst is ok in the human body ,,,but i read in the internet that even a normal cyst shouldnt be kept inthe body not more than 8 weeks...
so.. i feel doctors neglected at that point 7 yet kept the cyst in the body which now had turned back to cancerous...

what can be the perfect solution now to treat??
plz..i need asnwer for this ..
thanks
