Child Has Fever, Hoarse Throat. Taken Calpol, Cofstop, Crocin, Piriton. Opinion?

Low grade fever since 10 days, 7year old,43kg, hoarse throat, 99.6 was max, paediatrician gave earlier calpol 10ml thrice and cofstop 5 ml twice. Went to another paediatrician he gave crocin ds 10ml 6hr gap and piritron 5ml twice. They both said rest and it would go. Child is active, nothing came from physical examination. One chemist said take augmentin 5ml twice. What is your opinion dear doctor.

Hi and thank you for this query.

From the description of symptoms, it sounds like this child have an upper respiratory tract infection. It is usually caused by viruses and treatment is symptomatic. Antibiotics are only indicated if a superinfection gets to occur which is caused by bacteria. Crocin and calpol are same. Choose one and stop the other. Cofstop and piriton are same, choose one and stop the other. Please, don't take augmentin for now unless new symptoms justify its prescription and let your physician make that decision.
It is always good to follow up with your doctor. This would have avoided the repetitive prescriptions and the unnecessary expenditures.

Hope you find this helpful and informative. If you have more questions, i have answers, keep them coming. I wish your son a speedy recovery.

Welcome to HealthCare Magic
Hope you are doing good. Fever , Hoarseness or loss of voice and many more are symptoms of Tonsillitis. calpol , crocin are paracetamol for fever and cofstop for cough and piriton are anti allergic.
Usually in Pediatric practice we don't start antibiotic that quick if the kid does not have worrying symptoms. Augmentin is a safe drug it will help you reduce the bacterial infection quick. for viral infection antibiotics wont work bed rest , Drink warm or very cold fluids to ease throat pain , Gargle with warm salt water will help your kid.
I hope you are satisfied with the Answer.

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

If the fever is persisting, it should be reevaluated by physical examination again and with investigations like complete blood picture, malarial parasite, throat swab for culture and sensitivity, chest X ray, widal test, and complete urine examination to look for the focus of infection.

If the evaluation is suggestive of bacterial infection, he should receive a course of antibiotic in adequate dosage.

Augmentin in 5ml dose is inadequate dose for his weight.

I advise you to consult the pediatrician for follow up and reevaluation and to look for the necessity of antibiotic.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
