Child Had High Fever. Given Amoxicillin For Throat Swabs. Told To Have Viral Fever. Has No Fever But Rash

My baby girl is 8 months old, got sick 6 days ago, very high fever (38.8-39 C) persistent for 5 days, sudden onset. Went to the hospital twice, first were discharged with pending throat swabs (I saw some bumps at the back of the throat), and prescription for amoxicillin, I did not wait until swabs results were done, started giving amoxi on Saturday. Fever persisted, went to the hospital second time, requested blood test (MD wanted to discharge us with "viral infection"). Blood test was done, low numbers of neutrophils, lymphocytes, WBC. MD told that "this is virus most likely" and discharge us again. I continued to give amoxi because baby felt better with it. But now I remember that we go to the park near the pond every day for few hours, baby sleeps there. She was bitten by mosquitoes few times. I did not mention it to the doctor. Today baby has no fever but I noticed rash. Nobody is allergic to amoxi in my family (I have two other children). I am concerned about it a lot, what is your opinion, thank you

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child looks suffered from viral illness as the doctor said.

In viral fevers, there may be rash followed by the fever.

Where is the rash present on its distribution on body?

Is child irritable from the itching?

Or it may be an allergic rash from the drug or due to plants in the park.

You can apply calamine lotion externally over the rash for soothing effect on skin.

Consult the pediatrician again for examination of the rash and treatment for it.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
