Can An Online Doctor Explain My MRI Findings?

I'd like to better understand these MRI findings:
1. C4-C5: Mild posterior disc osteophyte complex, eccentric to the right that indents the ventral aspect of the thecal sac. No mass effect on spinal cord. Moderate neural foraminal narrowing on the right. left foramen is patent
2. C5-C6: Mild posterior disc osteophyte disease that largely effaces the subarachnoid space ventral to the spinal cord. No mass effect on the cord. No significant foraminal encroachment
3. C6-C7: Mild left paracentral disc protrusio that mildly indents ventral aspect of the thecal sac. Foramen are patent.
I have pain radiating into my right arm. Do I need steriod injections or surgery? Thanks.

Hello
Thanks for writing to us

According to history you have degenerative disc disease of cervical spine.
Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis which allows herniation of disc.

1.At C4-5 level there is mild posterior disc osteophyte complex, it is indenting ventral aspect of the thecal sac in the right side.It is causing moderate narrowing of neural foramen on the right side whereas left foramen is patent.

2.At C5-6 level there is also mild posterior disc osteophyte complex that is effacing subarachnoid space ventral to the spinal cord. No significant foraminal narrowing is seen.

3.At C6-7 level there is mild left paracentral disc herniation that is mildly indenting ventral aspect of thecal sac. Foramen are patent.

Treatment for degenerative lumbar disease includes physiotherapy or surgery.
Effectiveness of both modalities are same. So,physiotherpay should be tried first. It causes strengthening of Para spinal muscles and it prevents further changes.
In acute cases, ideally physiotherapy should be started after pain subsides .
Surgery should be the last option.
There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief.
Other pain relieving modalities are Ozone ablation,Radiofrequency ablation, percutaneous disectomy etc.
Steroids are also used for foramen block, but it is not the definite treatment.

Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurosurgeon.
You should also modify your posture while sitting.
Get well soon.

Take Care
