What Does Severe Rectal Pain After Periods Indicate?
Pelvic endometriosis is likely.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
The symptoms are very much suggestive of pelvic endometriosis.
If there are endometriotic deposits between the uterus and the rectum, these are the typical symptoms that are observed.
Particularly since you have observed a corelation every month after your period, it is more likely to be endometriosis.
If it was just random constipation and pain during bowel movement, some other reason such as a haemorrhoid, polyp, etc could be thought of, but the constant corelation with the periods makes endometriosis more likely.
First there has to be a diagnosis confirmation.
Please get an internal evaluation by a Specialist OB - GYN.
Next, a pelvic ultrasound and MRI is a must.
Sometimes, a laparoscopy is needed to make the diagnosis if all else fails.
The treatment involves medical means as a first resort.
Birth control pills, cyclical progesterone, the progesterone IUD, Danazol, Growth hormone analogues and antagonists - these are just some of the medications available.
Surgery is a last resort for very severe and resistant cases.
All the best
