What Does Presence Of Feces In Urine After Recovering From UTI Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Sep 2015
Question: Hi Had a UTI last week and it was cleared with Cipro.
But I still have problems. I am having what appears to be feces in the urine and gas from penis sometimes now. Especially in the morning when I have my BM. This began middle of last week wen I had the UTI. Never had this before.

I went back to the doctor and told him and he put me on 11 more days of cipro to see if this would clear it all up. I will have a urine test 3 days after the 11 days and then 3 days later go see him.
Question - I think from reading on the internet this is a colovasial fistua. Is it possible it would clear up?

2 years ago I had a very sore stomach and had to have flagyl for a week and then it cleared. I am thinking this may have been diverticulitis and now 2 years later I am having a fistula. however doctor seems to say - many strange things happen with male UTI's and he thinks a chance it will all clear up with more Cipro. He thinks a Fistula would come from much more suffering than just a UTI.

Wonder your thoughts -- Could this clear up?

Hi!

Welcome to health care magic!

I am Dr. Saddiq Ul Abidin. I have read your problem in detail and will try to help you in best way possible.

Yes, Based on the smell and gas, it can be one but there are easier ways to diagnose it rather than making asumptions and relating it to old possibilities of diverticulitis.

It can either be confirmed on cystoscopy or with contrast XXXXXXX injecting into bladder. A urologist normally does so.

But make sure you are not confusing pus or any other discharge from urthera with fecal mater? As it is common with severe UTIs to present with smelly discharge.

Most ideal, relevant and primary investigation after signs of UTI on urinalysis should have been a culture and sensitivity test. That would have diagnosed the exact organism causing the infection and drugs to which it will respond to.

To clarify further, a urinalysis for bile pigments and stercobilinogen will clarify whether urine has fecal substance or not.

Another approach can be colonoscopy done by a gastroentrologist.

But in order to reach any conclusion you need to visit a urologist as first priority rather making asumption n surfing net yourself. It may appear harsh but it is the right approach and not the one you have adopted.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. kindly rate me before closing, and leave your feedback if possible.

Thanks you for your answer.

Well - the discharge is brown and smelly -- it smells a bit different than feces but kind of like it (more like strong pee and wet old socks) and is more watery than feces. It only happens until noon then pee is clearer - some tissue in it. Ever hear of that from a UTI?

The gas is like a fart and feels good when it happens. I find my region just above the penis to the left if bulging a bit. Perhaps the bacteria emit a gas

Brief Answer:
UTI and gas with darker discharger

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Gas producing bacteria can cause UTI in rare conditions and the color and consistency of the discharge ad you explained, even in the case if a fistula it doesn't have to be exactly of the same as feces as in such case it will be premixed with urine which will make it dilute and little different in color and consistency.

The swelling you mentioned, you need to get it reviewed by a surgeon too as it can be inguinal hernia according to the site you have mentioned.

I will urge you that in any case, get it examined by a doctor.
