Question: Hi,
My Father, aged 61 years is diagnosed with jaundice 2 weeks ago. He is taking rest and precaution; advised food with no spices, only boiled food. His SGPT:1531 & SGOT:2039, sugar level is 141, Bilirubin Direct:12.30 & Bilirubin Indirect:2.60, Alkaline is:226, GGT:215. He is taking medicines for Blood Pressure since last 4 years. He used to drink occasionally (once in month). His urine is yellowish. In test reports his sugar level was diagnosed 416!
On reconfirming it was 210.
No sign of abdomen or back pain but headache is always there.
Please suggest what diet plan, medicines, test should be done for recovery. Also he gets irritated if we say to rest.
Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
ultrasound scan as well as prothrombin time neede4d.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for the query

Looks like he has severe hepatitis. We need to keep a strict watch on liver function tests every three to five days. In addition need to do test like prothrombin time every three days. Also getting an ultrasonography is equally important and if suggest some specific abnormalities may need additional tests like an CT scan or MRCP if deemed necessary.

He needs to be on strict bed rest. No dietary restrictions are needed let him take normal diet as he likes. Avoid medications over the counter or alternative treatment.
If liver function show deterioration an extreme treatment option if liver failure develops is liver transplant.

Hope this answers your query
Wish him a speedy recovery
Happy to help
