Question: Hi Doc,

I had CT contrast scan for abdomen. They made me drink 11 glasses medicine mixed with juice. Everything came back normal except cyst in the liver, I came back home and had food and i felt like i want to use bathroom and it was diarrhea and suddenly my body started shaking in chills and fever. The fever is around 102 to 103. I had paracetamol thrice. Now shaking chills are not there. I still have fever around 102 and still watery diarrhea. The diarrhea frequency is 3 -4 times thats all. I also came from USA to XXXXXXX last week on vacation. Please help?

Brief Answer:
I need further details.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
There are two possibilities:
1. Travellor's Diarrhea.
2. Contrast induced reaction causing fever.
Loose stools do occur with the solution they give to clear the bowel before CT Scan.
I would like to know a few more details to help you better:
1. When did you have CT?
2. When did you start having loose stools and fever?
3. How much gap was there between consumption if liquid medicine and developing diarrhea.
4. Any blood in stools?
5. Any cramping or pain abdomen?
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me and answer these questions preferably in point wise manner.
Stay Healthy.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be due to Laxative

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Your loose stools seems to be due to Laxatives used for the purpose of cleaning your bowels prior to CT.
In such scenario, i would advise you to maintain proper hydration by drinking plenty of oral fluids including Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS).
Your loose stools should stop in a day.
Make a note if you have any breathlessness or skin rash, then you would require to see your doctor and get anti allergics considering it a contrast allergy.
In case you get any abdominal cramps or blood in stools, you will require to take antibiotic combination like Ofloxacin and Ornidazole.
You should also take probiotics.
Share my opinion with your doctor. You should report this episode to the doctor who ordered CT for you.

Brief Answer:
No.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Fever can be due to contrast induced allergic reaction or it can be a part of Infective Diarrhea that is Travellor's diarrhea.
If your fever persists, you would require to take antibiotics.
Wait till tomorrow. If your fever persists, then see your doctor immediately.
I hope it helps.
