What Does A White/yellow Crusted Bump On Inner Thigh Indicate?
Question: Hello,
2 days ago I noticed a tiny white/yellow crusted bump on my inner thigh, I scratched it off (probably not the best idea) and it just left a red spot with a white center, since then it seems that that area has gotten more red surrounding it and I also developed a similar bump on the opposite thigh in what seems like an identical spot and when I noticed this one it appeared to have yellow ooze/fluid coming out if it. I've been told before that I have folliculitus but everytime it comes back I find myself worrying all over again! So I'd really appreciate your help. If it is jus folliculitus do you also think you could inform me what an STD type outbreak would really be like so I don't find myself in extreme anxiety everytime this happens?! Thank you for any help you can give! I also took pictures if you believe that will help!

Hi XXXX ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
If I were your doctor, I would after a physical examination of the lesion might have tentatively diagnosed it as a fungal infection super added with secondary infection. I would have advised you for a topical anti fungal and anti septic cream along with an oral anti inflammatory and a broad spectrum antibiotic drug. Depending on the response I might add an oral anti fungal drug also. Before instituting the broad spectrum antibiotic, a culture sensitivity test of the yellow fluid/ooze coming out of the bump would be of much help.
Folliculitis occurs due usually to a bacterial infection of a hair follicle. This might have secondary infection with a fungus. The opposite thigh got the infection due to the infective fluid coming into contact with the other at the same point.
In case you are sexually active, specially if with more than one partner, I would definitely give STD a thought, and accordingly investigate you in that line. Further management would depend on the reports.

So I should be worrying? I should also add that the bumps are completely painless and other than seeing them I don't even notice that they are there. When I don't agitate it it seems like te redness goes away and I just have a red spot on each thigh. When I looked really close it looked like each spot had a hair in it though they seemed like clear hairs which is weird because I have black hair. Thank you for any further help

However, the best man to judge would be one who examines it clinically on site. Therefore, I would advise you to also see a Dermatologist and discuss with him on the options noted above and go with his advice. Also taking a little more care on your personal hygiene would go a long way in preventing such relapses. A routine blood sugar test might be handy as a base line.

Thank you! So while I am waiting for a doctors appointment by the sounds of it should I be worried about an STD and refrain from any activities of that nature? An STD is what I am most worried about at the moment!

Okay so I woke up this morning and both spots were just, gone. Like I said all I hae been using is bactrician ointment or something like that I forgot the name. The first bump appeared on Tuesday. But now they are both gone. What condition would that be typical of? I hope this helps while I wait to get a dr appt.

Thanks a lot! The bactrician is DEFINITElY helping, it's not completely gone but it is certainly fading. I believe I still should perhaps schedule an appointment due to the fact that this folliculitus or whatever it could be keeps reoccurring the past 6 months. I know that I read that antibiotics can be necessary sometimes. I shower often but it somehow still comes back

Also, in case you are overweight, you should start making efforts to lose it as there is constant friction in between the thighs with worsening of the boils due to less of space in between the thighs in the obese. I hope you are not in this category. Also a routine blood sugar test might be useful.

Nope not overweight only 5'2 120 pounds but I'm jus glad the signs are leaning away from a serious STD! Will make Dr. Appointment to perhaps get some antibiotics and hope it goes away. Thank you!
