Question: Hello doctor,

My son who is 38 days old now and with weight of 3.14 KG has fever with a temparature varying aroud 99.6 deg F to 100.9 deg F since yesterday early morning.

We had visited Pediatrician and they had asked for the blood test and Urine test. Urine culture report is still pending because it needs 48 hours it seems, however i am attaching all other available reports for your consideration.

As per the doctor, we are administering him right now:
1. Calpol paracetamol drops (6-8 drops) once every 6 hours.
2. Vi-Syneral-Zinc multi vitamin drops (6 drops) once every day.

Details of the baby:
1. Age: 38 days
2. Weight during birth: 2.48 KG
3. Weight today: 3.14 KG

Baby also has swelling in the pipe of left kidney, i am also attaching the pediatric nephrologist's observation for tour reference.

Kindly advice if the current treatment is correct or anything else needs to be done? We are worried to see our newborn small baby suffering fever.

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
I have gone through the records - We will wait for culture report

Detailed Answer:
Hi....
I understand your concern.

Yesterday itself I had seen the initial 3 reports of CBC, electrolytes and CRP. There was nothing to worry about it.

The hydronephrosis which is being detected could be an antenatally existing hydronephrosis and usually such hydronephrosis will usually resolve spontaneously.

I still feel this is not a significant urinary tract infection (UTI). That's the reason why I am asking you to wait for urine culture report.

You can continue Ultra D3 drops and Visyneral drops.

Continue Paracetamol for fever.

Hope I am clear. Any further queries are most welcome.

I will be awaiting the urine culture report.

Regards - Dr. Sumanth
