What Do My Lab Test Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Aug 2016
Question: Hi,

From yesterday evening I have a lower abdomen pain in the right side . I can feel the pain when I press there or while walking / sitting and getting up. I went to see the doctor they took a abdomen scan . The scan reports are attached. They assume it to be either because of appendicitis / gas / kidney stones.

They told me to wait for two days to confirm. The pain is bearable but annoying. I am very anxious to know if it is very serious.

- Do I really have appendicitis. What are the symptoms to confirm it.
- I am feeling hot from inside but no fever. Is it due to high BP
- Any antibiotic for treatment without surgery. How long should i wait for the pain to subside
- Do I really go through surgery.
- OR is it kidney stone moving and am getting pain.
- Or it a muscle cramp

Please help

Brief Answer:
Need not worry until anything is proven

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

Thanks for using healthcaremagic

I have gone through your queries and ultrasound abdomen report.

Don't get anxious thinking a serious issue, before actual diagnosis.

1)Nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhoea, low grade fever(99 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit),loss of appetite are the common symptoms associated with appendicitis. Do you have any of the above symptoms ?

Tachycardia(fast pulse),increased White cells especially polymorphs in hemogram also support the diagnosis.

2)Feeling feverish inside is not due to increased Blood pressure.

3)Surgery is the definite treatment for appendicitis, as antibiotics course may help reduce the intensity of infection not prevent recurrence or complications associated with appendicitis

4) As your treating doctors say, diagnosis of acute appendicitis is inconclusive at the moment. The pain should relieve in next 24 -36 hrs failing which, further imaging with CT abdomen is suggested to rule out appendicitis.Hope you are in hospital care which is mandatory to observe you.

5)An empirical IV broad spectrum antibiotic course like cefotetan or cefuroxime can be started, which helps prevent postoperative infections if the surgery is planned.

6)If there's high suspicion or confirmation of appendicitis, you really need to undergo surgery and Yes, the pain can alsobe due to other reasons like distended bowel loops(Gas),renal stones getting down in the passage etc.

Hope this answers your queries

If any doubts, feel free to ask

Take care

Thanks doctor.

My Symptoms :

1) Lower right abdomen pain when pressing or moving.
2) High level of gas both in abdomen and stomach. Not able to pass abdomen gas.
3) Stools are semisolid or watery, but not satisfied that the bowel is cleared.
4) Fever (99-100) with tiredness and weakness.

Pain has reduced as compared yesterday, but having too much of burping and gas from mouth. Fever continues at 99-100.

How long will it take to settle down, when should I visit the doctor again. What blood test I should take to confirm. Shall I take a dextrose and nexisum injection to feel better

What food to eat, can i take herbal medicines for constipation and gastritis.

I am an alcoholic but not drinking for the past three days. Will be some thing else like cancer in intestine. Please clarify

Brief Answer:
Seems like gastrointestinal infection secondary to constipation

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,

Thanks for writing back with additional information.

The symptoms you are facing is probably due to mild gastrointestinal infection secondary to constipation and also isolated gastritis(probably alcohol induced).

The symptoms will resolve when you start evacuating bowel adequately and intestinal environment returns back to normal state which may take around 3 to 4 days atleast.

I suggest you to take probiotic capsule called bifilac thrice a day for 3 days which helps restore the normal flora in gut.

To aid in relieving constipation, you can consume stool softener like cremaffin syrup as directed or Dulcolax as rectal suppository. Please note if you have loose stools or adequate bowel movement, should not use the above.
Syrup.Gasrelief or suspension containing simethicone can help reduce gas related issues.

I suggest you to visit your treating doctor once, better today evening so that you will better understand what to do and not.

I won't recommend the use of any herbal supplements now but yes, you can take neksium injections for gastritis. If you have no vomiting, advised oral soft bland diet and not IV dextrose ..Avoid spicy, oily foods..Encourage curd, yoghurt, buttermilk, banana, tender coconut water,Kanji(made of rice,Akhrot),vegetable soups, fresh fruit juice without sugar..Maintain good hydration which is also important.Avoid milk and synthetic sugar for next few days.

I suggest two blood tests one is complete hemogram, the other one is widal test( for typhoid).

Cancer is very unlikely and you don't need to even think about that.Be rest assured.

Hope I have answered your queries

If any doubts, feel free to ask

Take care
