Posted on Tue, 23 Dec 2014
Question: Hi doc,
since last few months, I can notice some very small not completely white but a little lighter than my skin color patches on the inner right arm. I've also noticed that when I get waxing done, it gets very prominent and I can see it. And after soem time, it fades away on its own. any reason to worry doc?

Brief Answer:
Upload high resolution clear clinical pictures for better understanding.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for posting on HCM

From your description it seems that you are having pityriasis versicolor, a superficial skin infection caused by a fungus. But it too difficult to reach specific diagnosis in absence of actual examination.
Therefore I insist you to post some clinical pictures for better understanding.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Oral and topical antifungals

Detailed Answer:
Hello
As I suspected earlier, it seems like you have got fungal infection over the areas. It is not much to be worried about.
I would recommend you to apply ketoconazole cream twice a day.
Use shampoo containing ketoconazole and selenium sulfite for rinsing daily.
Maintain hygiene.
Hope you will get fine soon
Thank you

thanks doctor. But because it's in my arm, how does shampoo come in picture? Did you mean soap? Any soap you'd recommend? Thanks once again.
Also for how many days should i apply the cream?

Instead of shampoo you can also use ketoconazole soap for rinsing.
Cream should be applied twice a day for atleast 3-4 weeks.
Please do update me with your condition after 3 weeks.
