What Causes Unilateral Facial And Limb Spasms?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Apr 2017
Question: For the past month, I have been experiencing random muscle spasms in m left leg, left arm and the left side of my face. I have always been healthy and this just started happening out of the blue. These "episodes" last about a minute, but the are happening up to a dozen times a day. I have been to the ER, family doctor, chiropractor and nutritionist. No headaches, no high blood pressure or cholesterol, etc.

Hi i am Dr Ahmed Aly
thanks for using HealthcareMagic site ,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns ..

Hope you feel better but from your given history you have done your laboratory investigations so i think you do not have any kind of nutrients deficiency . you also tested both your sides for nervous injuries , Ct brain , CBC , etc.
I think it could be a kind of stress , anxiety , allergy from some substances used on daily bases like alcohol , smoking , coffee , narcotics or even your drinking water .
You may ask your physician about more hormonal examination on your glands like pituitary , thyroid , adrenal glands . MRI on spine to rule out any kind of discs , herniation or any other cause of nerve compression that may show such symptoms .
Maintain a healthy diet and sleeping pattern and high fluid intake to flush your body from any excess substances and maintain your physiotherapy and vitamin supplementation . try to be patient and follow your doctors instructions .
If these symptoms persists and no stress or depression or any kind of mental illness ask a good psychiatrist or neurologist for proper evaluation and management .

wish you good health.

I don't really have any stress or anxiety and I don't drink alcohol or take/use any drugs (we have township water), however, I have been a smoker for about 28 years and drink moderate coffee. Although my episodes can happen any time, I have noticed that my episodes are more frequent with movement...going from sitting to standing, rolling over from my back to my left side, pulling my daughter up on my lap, crooking my left leg off to the side, etc.

Brief Answer:
I think if it is related to your movements especially your spinal manipulations .

Detailed Answer:
I think if it is related to your movements especially your spinal manipulations while carrying your daughter and standing or sitting may be referred to nervous compression on your spinal nerve roots .
You may need MRI on spine and follow it up with a neurologist for proper evaluation and management of the causes of such fits especially after you have done a CT brain scan and had it free .
I hope you feel better and these attacks vanish permanently if properly treated .in my opinion it originates from a central nervous system dysfunction may be cervical disc herniation .

A cervical disc herniation could affect my entire left side? Would I experience pain with that, or not necessarily?

Brief Answer:
It differs from person to person according to the severity of the nerve compression.

Detailed Answer:
It differs from person to person according to the severity of the nerve compression .in most of cases it will cause low back pain with tingling and numbness .
I prefer you do MRI on spine and send me your report or follow it up with your neurologist .
