What Causes Swelling And Pain In Ankles?

default
Posted on Thu, 20 Aug 2015
Question: I am just returning from vacation in Europe where it was humid and hot. I had problems each afternoon and evening with both my ankles swelling very large. I returned home last night but still seeing the swelling. it improves with elevating my feet while sleeping at night. I did have some ankle pain early in the week on one foot where it felt like something was pressing on a nerve or an Achilles injury. I was on my feet a lot, however, I am a runner at home and regularly workout without any problems. Do you recommend I see a doctor or wait

Brief Answer:
It could be due to kidney issues. Get blood test.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam,
Swelling of both feet could be an indication of some kidney problems.
I suggest you get a Renal function test - BUN and Creatinine done. Its a simple blood test. Allso get Bilirubin, Albumin and Globulin tests done. This will tell us whether there is any central cause leading to the swellings.
Only after the test results will I be able to tell you whether you need to see a Doctor or not.
Do let me know the test results so I can advice you further as to what is to be done.
Take care,
