What Causes Shortness Of Breath, Hip Pain In A Patient With Lymphoma?

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Jun 2015
Question: I am 68. I just finished a 4 round Chemo treatment for lymphoma. I am taking a 15 time radiation treatment as a follow up but cancer is in remission. I also take 25 MG of predizone daily for MG. I have been unable to walk over a block since before my Chemo without becoming out of breath and having hip pain. It is getting worse. My Cardiologist says after all tests my heart is ok. My lung doctor says after his tests that my lung capacity is above normal. I am not sure where to go from here. Also Itake 4 hydrocodone daily for foot pain.

Brief Answer:
There can be other causes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Greetings from Dr.Divakara. P
Thanks for posting your query.

There are many causes for shortness of breath. But among them heart and lung problems are the most important.

The other possible causes are low hemoglobin, kidney problems or problems in metabolism or hormonal problems.

But before going for the evaluation of other causes I would like to be confirmed that you have been thoroughly evaluated with respect to lung and heart problems.

Hence kindly upload the reports of tests that have been done on you with respect to your heart and lungs.

Regards.

I have taken a lung capacity test with a lung specialist with the report coming back above normal capacity. As well as a oxygen absorption test with everything normal.
I have had heart sonagram and CT with XXXXXXX and all reports showed normal.
My blood tests have come back in the little bit low range for red cells but the Dr. did not think they were low enough to be a problem.
Could this be caused by low testosterone or mychenia gravis.
Could this be caused by one or more of the medication I am taking.
In addition to the extreme tiredness of legs and shortness of breath I perspire profusely.
If this cannot be narrowed down. What kind of Dr. to I try to find that can take all into consideration so I do not go to several that only treats their specialty.

Brief Answer:
You can consult a Physician.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Thanks for the information.

In addition to the tests you have undergone , I would recommend an Arterial Blood gas Analysis. Also kindly let me know what was commented on the Pulmonary Artery pressure in the cardiac Sonogram .

I don't think low testosterone can cause breathing difficulty but yes Myesthenia can cause and it is many times associated with Lymphoma. If all other reports come normal then I would recommend you to get tested for Myesthenia but not now.

I would recommend additionally Serum Creatinine, Serum TSH , Fasting and Postprandial blood sugars. Kindly get these tests done and revert back with reports. ( Along with Arterial Blood gas Analysis )

A physician ( a good One ) is the right person who can look into this problem as he can think in all the directions.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.
