What Causes Persistent Headaches After An Accident?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 May 2017
Question: Hi,
My mom had an accident nearly 6 months ago in a supermarket where she tripped and fell in the flour. At that time she claimed she didn't hit her head, although she said she felt a bit nausea she didn't vomit. Her left side cheek were swollen and reddish because she hit herself on the food shelves. It was quite bad at that time and she was in lot of pain for a day or two. We immediately took her to the hospital to check and the doctor said nothing to worry about and just advise her to take some parecetamol for the pain and advised us to bring her back if she vomits. But luckily, she didn't vomit so we didn't have to take her to the hospital. But, all of a sudden, for the past 2/3 weeks she's complaining about headaches which comes and goes any time of the day. But mostly in nights. She's also saying that she can feel a pain in her left side head if she presses it and it's kind of spreading to the back side of the head. She takes paracetamol for that and it goes away afterwards. She's now worried whether this might be something to do with her accident 6 months ago? Is that possible? Will there be any head injury caused due to that?

Brief Answer:
Respected XXXX,hi chance of post-traumatic syndrome, needs CT Scan brain.

Detailed Answer:
Respected XXXX, hi I evaluated your query for mom thoroughly.
*Post-traumatic head-aches sometimes last for various period of times
depending upon person , even if injury was minor & not exactly over head , so
it is possible.
*It`s due to microscopic disruption of nerve fibers in the brain due to stretching
or shearing forces of the trauma.
*I recommend to get a Computerised Tomography Scan for the brain to rule out
any underlying issue with brain.
*Till that time I recommend additional therapy for her along with paracetamol
to get faster recovery.
- maintain her hydration by plenty of liquids.
- keep her BP , Blood sugar levels under control.
- elimination of nicotine & alcohol if at all consumed.
- regularize meal times.
- avoid stress / anxiety.
- have sound sleep of atleast 6-8 hours.
- Relaxation techniques with concentration exercises & YOGA for daily 30
minutes help tremendously.
Hope this clears your query.
