What Causes Lower Abdominal Cramps During Pregnancy?

Posted on Thu, 15 Sep 2016
Question: I am 4 weeks and 1 day pregnant and have been experiencing cramping in my lower belly and lower back. I've found the pain only kicks in after using my bowels in the morning. It hurts when walking and I am able to get relief by having a bath or urinating. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
It is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The mild cramping in the lower abdomen that decreases after urinating is likely to be due to the pressure of growing uterus on the urinary bladder. Frequent urination is the best way to avoid this pain. This is a normal variation and the pain will gradually reduce the baby will grow.

I recieved my hcg results that were taken at exactly 4 weeks and the level was 57... can this result in a full pregnancy or is this considered low and do I expect to miscarry?

Brief Answer:
Level at 57 is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The HCG results at 4 weeks are normal. This level should double in next 48 hours. This level is normal and is not suggestive of a miscarriage.
Hope my answer is helpful.
