Question: Woke up May 27 the with a headache and droopy/ swollen eye L side. Waited a week to go in though it was allergy because the pollen was high in our area. When I went in eye pain temple pain and top of the head felt sunburnt only on L side diagnosis gain cell arteritis given prednisone but when labs came back seg rates were normal so slowly decreased prednisone and given anti viral for 7 days (tested for lymes and strep..both normal) the only test that were just a little off were WBC just a tad low and LYMPH just a tad high but they said normal because just slightly off... they thought maybe shingles with no rash.... No or less tearing on L eye also.....and waited for ins to clear CT scan of the head. Started getting ear/ throat pain L side. CT was taken fri 16 the made appt to get results mon 19 .....Sunday 18 the woke up facial numbness on L side of face. Headache was almost gone when face was numb felt like I had a dental procedure my face moved but felt numb.... but numbness decreased and headache increased about 24 hrs...Sunday when face was numb I went into ER just in case of stroke sent to Marshfield St XXXXXXX neuro dr diagnosed facial pain and sent me home....then he called the next morning and wanted a MRI check for caroid artery disection and MRI of head got them Tue and both normal told to take a baby ASA and given amatripaline 10 mg. I also discussed having a dental procedure in February ( crown put on) and had trouble opening up my mouth wide for about 3 weeks after because of tightness in the back of my mouth / jaw.... he stated that is not the problem....I also went to my optometrist Friday XXXXXXX 9 th had him take a look at my eye( my eye is healthy) but he did give me a steroid drop for 1 week to see if it would help for eye pain but no luck.
My pain is about 2-3 all the time but sometimes gets to a 8-9 and lasts from 4-8 hrish. Last nigh I had the pain so I found some hydrocodone and muscle relaxer and took them instead of the ASA and amatripaline
I don't know if it help but I did sleep and woke up with the normal headache of a 2/3. I do have a recheck with my primary Tuesday and am going to ask about Physical Therapy for jaw pain
I just want this headache/ temple/ jaw pain to go away

Brief Answer:
Possible diagnosis:Atypical trigeminal neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

A typical trigeminal neuralgia is characterised by burning facial pain which can be constant and increasing intensity intermittently.
Trigeminal neuralgia occurs due to loss of myelin sheath around trigeminal nerve.
Confirmation of diagnosis requires physical examination, neurophysiologic studies and ruling out other causes like multiple sclerosis.
Treatment is with anti seizure medication carbamazepine.
Please be advised to follow up with a primary care provider for further evaluation and management.
