Question: I suffer from very heavy periods and endometriosis. Today I was in work and fainted whilst standing up. I had just eaten lunch, and had been to the toilet passing a large blood clot. My blood pressure is currently 90/60. What caused my faint and how do I best treat it?

Brief Answer:
Need few more details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
THanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Is your period going on currently ?
Or was this clot abnormal in terms of your menstrual cycle ?
It is possible that you are anemic, due to heavy menstrual bleeding.
Please get your hemoglobin levels checked.
Also, it is possible that you did not have enough fluids during the day, leading to orthostatic hypotension.
This occurs when you get up suddenly, and faint, due to sudden decrease in blood supply to the brain.
What is your normal blood pressure otherwise ?
What is your height and weight ?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.

Hello,

Yes my period is currently ongoing. It started this morning, only 14days after I finished my last period. I have a shorter cycle but never this short.
Without being crude, I have used 3tampons 8towels in the last 8hours and have still flooded and Saturated my underwear.

The pain is unbearable. I take iron supplements to aid the iron deficiency due to the amount of blood loss and the levels were fine upon last blood test about 8weeks ago.
The doctors have tried me on the pill, but it didn't work for me- the headaches and hormones created more problems than solved and I also don't want to have to take the pill.

Is there anything else they haven't tried, I am at my wits end at the minute and just fed up of always having a period. I don't want to go out when feel like this and i just want to sleep, but I have a job to do and a family to look after. Please help!
My blood pressure is normally 110/80.
I am 5'8" tall and 11st 12lbs, I know i need to lose some weight but when I constantly bleeding, I really don't have the energy to do anything like the gym or anything.

Brief Answer:
You need a workup first.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Endometriosis generally does not cause heavy periods.
It leads to irregular cycles, painful cycles and painful intercourse, urination, bowel movements etc.
Have you had a workup , because this amount of bleeding certainly is not normal.
And you cannot allow it to go on, because ultimately it will lead to a lot of health issues.
You should be having an internal exam, a Pap smear, pelvic ultrasound scan and hormonal levels -FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, DHEAS, Free testosterone, Lipid Profile.
There are various options apart from the BC pill, to treat heavy menstrual periods.
PRogesterone only pills, Mirena IUD, simple Mefenamic acid and Tranexamic Acid combination - all of these can be tried.
Please have the workup, and let there be a diagnosis first.
Then the treatment options can be discussed.
Take care.
