What Is The Treatment For Dizziness And Ear Infection?

hello, I am a 22 year old female currently living and working in Quito, Ecuador. For the past 2 weeks I have been getting random spurts of dizziness. The dizziness hits at different times of days, after I have eaten or before, standing or sitting. When it hits I feel lightheaded, dizzy, not nauseous but almost as if I might pass out. I used webmd to check the symptoms and it came up with middle-ear infection, but I do not have any ear pain. It also suggested anemia. I have low iron and used to take iron suppliments but stopped recently. Also, I stopped eating red meat and chicken in Jan. but continue to eat fish. Please let me know what you think may be causing me the dizzy spells. Thanks! CMurray

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Dizziness at an young age of 22 in a female patient can be due to following reasons:
* Middle ear infection as has been mentioned by you
* Inner ear infection affecting the vestibular apparatus necessary for balancing can cause dizziness
* Vertebral artery insufficiency can cause the same
* Brain tumor and inflammation

Consult an ENT Surgeon for proper clinical evaluation, examination and investigations like MRI of inner ear that is mastoids, brain and color Doppler of vertebral arteries as suggested by clinical picture. Symptomatic treatment with Cinnarizine or so. Take bed rest as this helps certainly. Any other specific treatment as per the cause found will help you to have good recovery, remember can take long time hence no haste.

Take care.
Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
