Posted on Fri, 21 Oct 2016
Question: Good day doctor, my wife had her last menses on the 31/08 and she ovulated on the 16/09 (we did follicular monitoring) she underwent an iui after doctor did a internal sono and said the egg is still there and we could proceed on 17/09 morning . The doctor prescribed duphaston 10mg and susten sr for 15 days after the procedure. Why wife has a cycle period of 28 days and her periods were due on the 28/09. She hasn't got her menses as of today. We both have done all the tests and we both are normal in all respects and have no history of infertility. We did a upt on 01/10 morning( but guess it's a little early) and it came negative. We would like to know whether my wife has conceived or is it the medicines that are causing the delay in periods. Kindly help and advise.

Brief Answer:
Serum beta hCG blood test required

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

It is difficult to say whether she has conceived. She will have delayed periods as she is taking progesterone medicines (Duphaston and susten). She will not get periods as long as she is on these medicines.

Please do serum beta hCG blood test after four days to confirm pregnancy. This is more accurate test than UPT alone.

Good day dr thanx for ur prompt reply. I would like to know after how many days after stopping these medicines will the periods resume incase she hasn't conceived because the doctor has told us to continue the medications for the next 7 days. Do these medications cause any long term implications and will it impact her regular cycle and ovulation

Brief Answer:
No long term problems

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This medicine does not cause long term problems.

Periods usually resume within a week after stopping pills.

Don't worry about long term complications like irregular periods or ovulation disturbances.
