What Causes Cramps In The Lower Right Abdomen?

default
Posted on Tue, 4 Jul 2017
Question: i am writing to give an update. I wrote in a few weeks ago when i had mild cramps in my lower abdomen area right above my genitals. this pain, although mild still persists, i now have a sharp, jabbing pain on the left side of my stomach and sometimes it is in the middle of my stomach. It just started today. my bowels are still normal, i have no fever and no other symptoms. my dr. said it sounded like i have spasms in my intestines and gave me bentyl and i took it for two days but feel like it gave me a bigger tummy ache so i stopped taking it. my dr. ordered a colonoscopy but isnt there blood work that he could have ran to rule out some things? at what point should i go to the ER? i will tell you that i have always suffered from anxiety and stopped jogging but recently started up again. i do have alot going on right now. the sharp pains are worrying me although they only come very sporadic and maybe hit me a total of ten times....one last thing....last night, the pain briefly migrated to my testicles.....but this only happend once.... going on three weeks with this now....wonder what it could be?

Brief Answer:
Possible ureteric colic or intestinal spasm, recommended primary work up .

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com
I evaluated your query thoroughly .
* According to your narration , this sounds more of ureter colic or intestinal
spasm
* ER visit recommended if pain score is more than 5
* Antispasmodics like drotaverine will definitely help a lot
along with deep breathing exercises involving pelvic muscles & abdomen
* Strongly recommend to get
- complete blood counts with ESR - fasting blood sugar - serum creatinine
urine microscopy - ultrasound abdomen & pelvis
* Would like to ask further questions for more details
1. urinary discomfort if any like burning , color change , frequency
2. exact location of pain on front of abdomen in relation to umbilicus , any
radiation to upper back or below ribs mean kidney area , pain each episode
lasts for how much duration , relation with any particular food
3. when last diabetes work up done , is under control
4. any time had undergone colonoscopy in life
5. smoking / alcohol intake

Hi Dr. Thank you for your response. i have no urinary discomfort. That part of me is normal. the pain is on my left side of my abdomen however my chief complaint is just on overall feeling of an upset stomach after i eat. no radiation to upper back or below rib cage. it is sharp stabbing pain lasting 2 seconds each episode. it doesnt get worse or better with any type of food. my diabetes runs from 160-200 daily. my A1C is 10 and has been dropping since i started the Farxiga around 8 months ago. Before Farxiga, my A1C was around 12.5. i have never had a colonoscopy in my life. i used to smoke but stopped 15 years ago. i dont drink any alcohol and havent since 1995. my Dr. gave me Bentyl 10mg. but i stopped after 2 days. should i give them another try? i just recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea and i am waiting for the results of the tritation test. i weigh 290 lbs and started jogging again to reduce my stress level after a 2 week halt. i began jogging in january 2016.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound of abdomen & pelvis recommended .

Thanks for the details herewith precisely .
* Feeling of upset stomach goes in favor of intestinal issue
while pain above genitals & referred to testicle yesterday is suspicious for
ureter calculus or gravels ( may be present in absence of urinary problems
even )
* Ultrasound will clear all the issues properly .
* Present suggestions for better recovery
- prefer more liquids intake as boiled water , coconut water, lemon juice

- soft , light diet with preferable intake of fresh curd as probiotic agent at
regular intervals
- avoid prolong fasting / over eating
- keep stomach empty by 20 % during every meals
- avoid all high fat caloric content items, spicy , non veg , junk foods , chilly
- avoid sleeping for 2 hours after meals
- should consume bentyl 2 times a day after meals
additional intake of capsule prilosec (20) mg morning and evening with sips of
water 1 hour before meals will help
- keep controlling blood glucose levels
- remain ambulatory as you are with deep breathing exercises focusing on the
abdominal muscles , YOGA
- avoid weight lifting at present
