What Causes Blurred Vision, Slurred Speech And Facial Numbness?

Question: Hi Doc,

I ave asked another question as I felt some numbness earlier today when I finished my grocery shopping.

http://www.healthcaremagic.com/AskDoctorInboxServlet?page=viewQuery&queryId=332148

My friend had to go through some bad episode as she had a vision loss on one ye for some time when she woke up and she got blurry vision and later she had slurry speech and at the doctors after CT and MRI she was diagnosed with ischemic changes on her brain and the doctor said Atypical Migraine. Initially doctors thought she had MS.

I am not sure if it is making me anxious and worried making me feel this sensation on my face ... I am worried and anxious and the doctors response is making me more nervous. I don't have any family history of any nerve issues.

I am healthy and no known health conditions. Any help is much appreciated and I am not sure if I need to go see a doctor.

This was a followup question for Dr. Erion Spaho, Neurologist, Surgical

Brief Answer:
I still think there is not a serious condition.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again and thanks for being on HCM.

I have read this and the other question too and understand your concerns.

Your friend had clear symptoms of nervous system involvement, in your case, I don't see any symptoms that may point to damage of nervous system.

Probably the lack of sleep caused the today's episode, so, I still think that yours is not a serious condition, but anxiety is playing its role.

You can see your Doctor, or a Neurologist and this can contribute in reassuring you that not a serious issue is causing your problems.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Take care.

thanks Doc.

I have the tingling sensation on my left cheek near the chin area. My left feet gets numb when I sit with cross leg. Is there anything you sense which might be bad? I am worried - is it MS or stroke or something ?

Brief Answer:
MS or stroke debut with more and severe symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Tingling in the face doesn't necessarily mean that there is a neurological disorder that is causing it.

Numbness in a leg occasionally and related to certain positions that subsides after changing position is related to temporary impairment of blood flow.

Neurological disorders such MS and stroke debut with more severe and specific symptoms such weakness of limbs, speech and vision issues, unsteady gait, fatigue, dizziness, etc.

So, again, in my opinion yours is not a serious neurological disorder.

Hope I helped you.

Take care.

Thank you Doctor for the response.

I had Vitamin D deficiency and Vitamin B12/B6/Folic acid deficiency. I started taking the Folic acid under the tongue every night but stopped for a while and I started taking it again. I had Vitamin D deficiency and I stopped taking the Vitamin D3 gels recently. As you know I started to work out and it is after many years of not working out in a gym or cardio. I started feeling tingling on face while exercising and it went away after I rest.

But this one i am still feeling it in my left and right side of lips .

I had thyroid infection(thyroiditis) and I was switching between hyper and hypo in the past. In my last test it was not showing any thyroid issues with the tests (last August). I have low plasma in blood as per my last test (99). I will be testing all this week.

I am worried what is going on, do you think vitamin deficiency or something else going on with my health ? I am worried.... scared.

To add I have my left feet is tingling a bit even though I am laying down. I am not sure what it could be..

Below my lips and chin area is tingling as well.

The tingling of Feet is gone and it looks like posture as I lay down for a while and it is gone. But my face is still bothering me..

Based on the test on Sep 28 -2016
The values are :
Platelets : 95
Other tests where not done in September only blood work.

But the tests done in July (Annual health check)
Based on July 2016
Vitamin B12 : 193
Folate : 16.0
T4 Free Direct 1.34
TSH 5.38
Vitamin D , 25-Hydroxy : 33.9

Brief Answer:
Vitamins deficiencies may cause such symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

It is well known that vitamin deficiencies especially those of B group are associated with neurological and nerves dysfunction, so, since the level of B12 is low, it is reasonable to consider it the cause of tingling around lips.

TSH is high also that indicates low thyroid gland function, so, this also can contribute to your symptoms.

The leg tingling as I said, it is most likely caused by impaired blood flow due to position.

Continue vitamin supplements.

Let me know about the tests of this week results.

Best regards.

Answered by Dr. Dr. Erion Spaho (12 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Probably dental issues.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Such symptoms are most probably related to dental problems, not any serious neurological condition.

So, getting evaluated by your Dentist is the right thing to do.

Hope I helped you so far.

Greetings.

hi Doc,

My Friend had an episode of her one eye going blind and headache and doctor assume it to be TIA and her results on CAROTID came all good and no issues and good blood flow etc. They think she might have MS.

What is this MS and what causes it? What are the signs? Am I need to worry ? My numbness is still there and more over my CAROTID and heart test all good. Am I at some risk due to this numbness tingling sensation ?

Hi Doc,

Lately I am seeing issues with my legs getting numb when I sit for some time. Also I used to bike and I got a tail bone pain and sometimes a numbness in my tailbone area. You think it is something bad with MS or something ? I used to ignore tail bone pain and I am worried now..

To add I am seeing the General Physician tomorrow. In our Family no one have MS and I am XXXXXXX origin. Any help or suggestion will be helpful.

Brief Answer:
MS is an autoimmune neurological disorder.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and thanks for being on follow-up.

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disorder that damages the myelin sheath of the neurons.

Symptoms include double vision, partial or complete loss of vision, numbness or weakness in one or more limbs, tingling or pain in parts of your body, speech issues, unsteady gait, fatigue, etc.

So, just tingling, does not mean that you suffer from MS.

In addition, tingling, numbness is not related to positions, as happens with your legs.

Tailbone pain may be related to previous biking.

Evaluation by your GP will help in understanding better your condition.

Take care.
