default
Posted on Mon, 17 Aug 2015
Question: In feb 2015, survived a widowmaker heart attack and had a stent placed in my LDA. Since then, reduced weight to 175, exercise 3 times per week, eat heart healthy, lowered Hdl to acceptable levels. This week, after experiencing chest pain for several weeks, did an angiogram and my RCA was blocked 100%, up from 40% in February. A stent was placed. What caused such a fast increase in blockage and what is survival rate? What can I expect go forward?

Brief Answer:
More aggressive cholesterol treatment and continue healthy lifestyle

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Sometimes we have progression of atherosclerotic disease, despite the lifestyle changes and medical treatment.
You should know that you are doing anything correctly, with your lifestyle you reduce risk as much as it is possible.
Yes, you had a disease progression, a lesion from 40% to a 100 %, but you should know, that it would be much more worse, if you didn't follow healthy lifestyle, and didn't take all medications.
In this cases we may consider more aggressive cholesterol lowering treatment, which will not only reduce blood cholesterol, but also stabilize atheromatus plaques.
It is possible that after some time, atherosclerosis will stabilize and no further problems will happen in near future.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health
