What Causes A Small Dark Red Spot At The Tip Of The Penis?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 May 2016
Question: Hello, I have a small dark red spot on the tip of my penis, the helmet to be precise. I did have unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex a few days back and am now worried that it might be herpes. Is that correct? I thought herpes presents itself with a more sore-like blister cluster? Or am I mistaken? Thanks
Since that encounter I have also had unlubricated (we normally use lube) sex with my long term partner, who now has two big sores on her labia minora. She has gone to the clinic yesterday and so far they rule genital herpes out. She regularly has mouth ulcers.

Symptoms:
None, though I do have a stuffed nose and sore throat. Common cold as is usual during this time of year for me. This morning I have also noticed a cracked lip, it cracked along a regular fold in my lip therefore I do not believe it to be a cold sore.

Brief Answer:
Looks like a contusion injury.

Detailed Answer:
good day and thank you for being with healthcare magic!

Looking at the picture you have attached your lesion in the head of the penis (glans penis) doesn't look like a herpes lesion. It looks more like a contusion from rough unlubricated sexual intercourse. My advise take it easy for a few weeks until the lesion and soreness is gone.

If you are worried about herpes virus infection then I would suggest getting an antibody test for HSV (Herpes simplex virus).

Thank you for your answer. Much appreciated. I will still probably go for a test next week.

How would you explain the 2 sores/ulcers (on close to exact opposite parts of the labia, 1 on each side) my partner has on her labia, could they be due to the friction as well? They look like mouth ulcers and are covered whiteish. She has been advised to take herpes pills anyway and salt rinse them. It burns when she pees. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Could be herpes

Detailed Answer:
Thsnk you for your follow up question.

My best guess would be it is due to the friction during your last intercourse. Although the lesions you are describing for your female partner sounds like a herpes lesion. It could also be due to a fungal infection (candidiasis).
