Posted on Mon, 28 Nov 2016
Question: My doctor 5 years ago said I have diverticulosis after a colonoscopy. I have never had symptoms of it, but I have had symptoms of diverticulitis for the last 4 days- low grade fever, constipation, cramping in both sides of my belly. Should I go back to the doctor for a diagnosis or treat it myself an hope it goes away?I am eating White rice, banana, white bread etc

Brief Answer:
Please see your doctor to assess the severity

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

I suggest that you see your doctor to Confirm the diagnosis and assess the severity.
It is possible that it may be Infected and that can become dangerous.

I recommend :
-a physician consult
-blood tests (complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, kidney and liver function tests)
-CT scan of the abdomen may be required.
- drink plenty of water
-have natural fiber in diet (whole fruits and fresh vegetables)
-avoid white bread and white rice. Have brown rice and whole grain bread. Take more soups and semisolid diet.

This may pass by itself but it needs to be assessed by your doctor first.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Hope you feel better soon.
Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
