Suggest Treatment For Uterine Fibroids

Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: have been diagnosed with uterine fibroids after an ultrasound scan. My symptoms are getting worse each month. I am bleeding heavily most of the month and after I have sex I will pass tennis ball sized clots. I am on the contraceptive pill and taking transamic acid. Nothing is helping. I feel so tired all the time and the pain is getting worse. My mother died of breast cancer at 42 and I am concerned it may be more than fibroids. Doctor keeps saying not much more they can do. Can I ask for further tests to be done? I have attached a pic of what i pass after sex

Brief Answer:
Fibroids are benign tumors and haven't relation with breast cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.

I understand your concern and I will try to help you,but please give me some more details.

How long did you have vaginal bleeding?
When was your last menstrual bleeding ?
How long did you use contraceptive pill?

As I see in the picture you have attached, it seems to be a product of conception.
When was the last ultrasound done ?

Feeling tired may be from the lost of excess blood ,while you have vaginal bleeding .
When was your last blood test done ?!

Don't worry for having fibroids ,because they are benign and haven't relation with breast cancer .
For breast cancer you should follow-up with mammogram and be aware with the use of contraception.
What kind of contraception do you use ?

All the best

I am taking microgynon and have a monthly cycle. I have been using this for a long time. This is lasting 10 days and is very heavy. Changing tampons every hour. This last bleed started 10 days before my period was due and i have now been bleeding for 15 days and still going. I havent had any blood tests and my scan was done several months ago. Its getting worse each month. I cant sleep at night because if constantly needing to wee. The picture i sent is something that is happening regularly after sex. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Have an ultrasound scan to exclude submucosal fibroma

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and apologize for late replay.

First you should do a transvaginal ultrasound to exclude that your fibroid isn't submucosal .
Having a submucosal fibroid means that medical therapy ,such as OC and transamic acid ,doesn't have effect.

If you have any picture of your last ultrasound please upload on my site.
If the fibroid isn't submucosal but on another position of your uterus than the reason of vaginal bleeding may be a hormonal imbalance.

When was the last Pap -smear test done,to exclude issue of your cervix.

While you have abundant vaginal bleeding use much more water and iron rich foods.

I had a smear done recently and thst was all clear.

Do you think a coil will help? I am worried that it will just stop the bleeding and not solve any of the other problems i am having.

Brief Answer:
Mirena Coil can help you

Detailed Answer:
HI dear again and thanks for trusting to us.

I'm very glad to read that your Pap smear was very good .

Yes ,a Coil especially ,Mirena (hormonal ,only levonogestrol) can help you.
But ,first you should do a transvaginal ultrasound to exclude submucosal fibroma and ovarian cysts.
Mirena coil can be very effective because:
1.it seems to be a hormonal imbalance
2.you have a member who have died with breast cancer(as you may know combined contraception as microgynon can increase chances for breast cancer ,while Mirena have only levenogestrol (progesterone ).

What kind of other health issue do you mention above ?

All the best

I am suffering from really bad pains that feel similar to contractions. Sex can be very painful. I condtantly need to wee. I am always tired and struggle every day at work. Also the appearance of my swollen stomach. Will the coil help with this? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Pain may be from uterine contraction and UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear again.
Bad pains you have may be from contraction of your uterus while you have vaginal bleeding, similar to menstruation and/or urinary infection while you frequently go to bathroom and feel bloated.
Go for a urinalysis to exclude any urinary infection.
Use cranberry teas to relive urinary issue, until you will go for urinalysis.

Being tired all days have many reasons .
To determine the reason of your tiredness you should do these tests:
blood test to exclude anemia
fasting blood glucose test
ion blood test ,like K ,Na,Ca ect

As I mentioned above Coil can help you to stop vaginal bleeding if the reason of bleeding is from hormonal imbalances .
As I mentioned above after you have excluded with a transvaginal scan that you haven't submucosal fibroid and/or ovarian cysts .

All the best
