Can High Temperature Affect The Activity Of Microgynon 30?

I am 34 and I have been on the Microgynon 30 pill for a few years. I am in Italy on vacation and left some extra packs in the trunk of the car for a few days. The pill must have been at very high temperature and I am wondering if its effectiveness might have been affected. The leaflet that goes with it does not say anything (I have the British leaflet). Thanks!

Hi,

The effectiveness of oral contraceptives, such as Microgynon 30, can be affected by exposure to high temperatures. According to the manufacturer's recommendations, the pills should be stored at a temperature below 25°C (77°F).

If the pills were exposed to high temperatures for an extended period of time, their effectiveness may have been reduced. It is difficult to determine the exact degree of effectiveness loss without knowing the specifics of the temperature exposure and for how long the pills were exposed. In the future, it is important to store oral contraceptives in a cool and dry place to ensure their effectiveness.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Heat exposure can potentially affect the effectiveness of medications, including oral contraceptives such as Microgynon 30. The active ingredients in the pill may degrade or break down when exposed to high temperatures, which could reduce its potency. It is recommended that oral contraceptives be stored at room temperature, preferably between 68-77°F (20-25°C). Exposure to temperatures above 86°F (30°C) for an extended period can potentially affect the effectiveness of the pill.

In your case, since the pill was exposed to very high temperatures for a few days, its effectiveness may have been compromised. It is recommended that you use a backup form of contraception, such as condoms, for the remainder of your cycle to reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy. It may also be a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional, such as a pharmacist or doctor, for further advice on how to proceed. They may recommend additional measures or tests to ensure that you are protected against unintended pregnancy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
