default
Posted on Thu, 23 Jul 2015
Question: I have been experiencing urine retention for awhile....... this problem have not been consistent it goes and comes. It only happens in The morning but once I ever empty my bladder it gets better, then it goes for a period of time normal, then eventually shows back up again. Just had to go to the er. And they emptied my bladder with a catheter. Now I have since urinated three times on my own. Just wanted to add that I don't drink much water..... any ideas

Brief Answer:
In-consistant repeated Bladder retention- Under Investigation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,Dear Good Evening from XXXXXXX
Thanks for your query to HCM. I studied your query in all the details and understood your concerns.

After reviewing the query details and the medical history, I need more info as follows-
a-Since when you had started on anti-high BP drugs
b-What are the anti-hypertensive drugs which you take?
c-Since how long you have this retention problem?
d-what are the following current and old reports on-
Urine microscopy, Complete Blood Count, fasting and post-prandial sugar, renal profile

Till the time you send this information, please act on the following health tips-
a-Take plenty of fluids
b-Maintain private part hygiene
c-Spinach soups and Skimmed butter milk -2 times a day
d-Banana Milk shakes x 2 times a day.
This would recoup your body and would take care from further retentions.
Welcome for any further query in this regard.

Await your reports and more info for the final advise on how to avoid the repeated bladder retention and how to avoid-catheterisation to relieve bladder retention.

Have a Good Day.
With Regards,
Dr.Savaskar M.N.

I haven't made appointment with a family.doctor yet. I went to the er nd they said my urine was normal. I've been having this problem for over two years but it's never been where I couldn't empty my bladder. This just.got like this maybe two months ago. There hAve been time when I couldn't go and I will drink a bottle of water and go six times...lol.... my blood pressure medication is Bisoprl/hctz 2.5/6.25mg.... this is all the information I have at the moment
I've been on hbp medication since 2009..... I've had bp problems since I was in high school. It runs in the family. I'm also obese. Was in a car accident where I suffered an open book pelvis fracture don't know If this could also be a contribution to the situation :-)

Brief Answer:
In-consistant Bladder retention under Investigation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,Dear,Good evening from XXXXXXX
@My impression of your case after the new info -is-
-Bisaprolol Induced Bladder Retention- and
-Open Book Pelvic fracture-contributions to it- to be studied by special test after 3 wkly review
Thanks for the prompt reply. This detailed brief up from you has made my views clearer to resolve your bladder retention problem
@After review of the new facts-following impressions would help to follow these-few important health tips-
a-The problem is more complex as the open pelvic fracture and bisaprolol are complicating the situation and are causing this retention of bladder.
b-I would advise you to give trial for 3 wks -with bisaprolol with PLENTY OF FLUID intake and to study whether the urine voiding comes to normal after 3 wks.
c-I would review all the test advised last, along with the next 3 wkly review.
d-I would consider special tests only if the Bladder Retention persists after this 3 wks trial with Plenty fluids.
@Hope this would resolve your worrisome query.
Welcome for any further query in this regard, and would love to help you to resolve this bladder retentions problem till it is solved to your satisfaction.
@I would take opportunity to request you to Write strong recommendations promoting my services for the benefit of my new and old patients at HCM clinic.

Wow..... I didn't know that this medication can cause urine retention.......also I went to the er this morning with no symptoms other than not empting my bladder they placed a catheter in and now when I do urinate it burns...... they took two attempts with the catheter. The first lady was unsuccessful and when she pulled it out, blood was in the tube.......it was told to me I didn't have an infection, but I'm burning when I urinate now.....

Hi and Good morning... my pelvis fracture was in 2006. My urine phone would be a test for me kidneys to see how they function right? If so can you get a test kit for that or do you have to go to the doc for that? I did however perform a UTI test at home and did find traces of an infection late last night, this however wasn't detected when u went to the er yesterday morning. Thanks for all your hard efforts and very informative advice. The doctors down here don't really act to concern about getting to the bottom of patients concerns. Much appreciated doc...,, :-)
