Question: I am a 41 year old female, 5'6" ,156 lbs. I have had problems with my stomach for about 2 1/2 years. Burning, severe bloating, excess gas, nausea, constipation, fatigue, weight gain. Sometimes when I go to the bathroom, my back literally hurts.I get kidney infection pretty often. I am tired all of the time. Everytime I eat, my stomach swells so big its unreal. I am literally at my wits end. I honestly can't take much more. I had my gallbladder out and it did not help. I have had 2 upper and lower gi's done and the only thing that the doctor found was an ulcer. He took a biopsy and said it wasn't caused by a bacteria. I was put on prilosec 2x a day for about 3 months. It seemed to help for a couple of weeks with the burning but thats it. The symptoms I am having are getting worse as time goes by. I have been on protonix 40mg 1x a day and zantac 150 up to 3x a day for a year. the doctor just upped my dose of protonix to 40mg 2x a day and zantac as needed. They can't find anything internal causing my problems. I have a history of endometriosis and ended up having a hysterectomy in 98 at the age of 25. My question is, Could my problems maybe stem from something on the outside of my intestines or stomach that they can't see through a colonoscopy or an endoscopy? I know I am probably grasping, but I honestly don't know how much more that I can take. Any ideas or advice?

Brief Answer:
There seems to be a problem with the bowel movments.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have carefully and thoroughly gone throug the problem that you have stated. You seem to have a problem with gastrointestinal motility. This forward peristaltic movement is responsible for moving the food matter downwards and forward throug the intestines as the food gets digested, absorbed and converted into feces before it is expelled out as excreta. A slowing or irregularity of this movement will make things stagnate in between. Hence when the gastric acids get stagnated, you get bloating and acidity related symptoms including the ulcer. Moreover, the fullness of the abdomen leaves less space for your lungs to expand and therefore you land up gasping. Prilosec and Zantac temporarily bring down the acid production but the stagnation is still there and hence you do not get relief. Under such a circumstance since there is no structural abnormality, nothing concrete would show up in a Upper GI Endoscopy or a Lower GI colonoscopy. But that does not mean that the problem is outside the intestines.
The solution would be in going for a fiber rich diet and dietary fiber supplements. You may also use stool softeners. Regular morning walk and exercise is a must.
I hope that you have been able to understand the pathophysiology involved. Try the measures suggested and you should get some relief.
