Suggest Treatment For Lower Back Pain Along With Swelling In Lower Legs

Question: I'm 49 years old and I weigh in around 450 lbs and I smoke about a pack a day. I have lower lumbar back problems, with the lower back pain I have I cannot exercise much at all, if I stay on my feet more than a 5 to 10 min span my back tries to go out on me.
I take the following blood pressure pills as follows:
Cozaar 100 mg daily.
metoprolol tartrate 100 mg twice a day.
hydralazine 25 mg 3 times a day.
clonidine 0.2 mg 4 times a day.
i also take the following vitamins daily:
flaxseed oil 1200 mg twice a day.
Qunol ultra co q 10 100mg a day.
coral calcium 1000 mg twice a day.
garlic 75mg two times a day.
mega red omega 3 krill oil once daily.
beta carotene 25,000 iu once daily.
Bayer low dose 81mg twice daily.

also for pain in my back i take up to 4, 325 mg aspirin, and or up to 2, 10 mg Norco per day.

my BP runs normally around 170/100 and my heart rate high 70's per min and oxygen is usually around 96 to 98%....
my feet and lower legs stay swollen all the time even when elevated, and I try not to salt any of my foods and stay away from most salty foods...

i cannot ware my shoes so i end up in flipflops most all the time.

Well, all the symptoms you are describing are most probably from the weight you have acquired. These figures have to be dropped down immediately. It may be that you are still having food that can make you gain weight. First, I would recommend these tests to be run:
- complete blood count (CBC) with erythrosedimentation rate (ESR)
- total cholesterol, LDL fraction, triglycerides
- urea, creatinine
- AST, ALT, bilirubine, GGT
- blood electrolytes.
With this weight, combined with your age and gender, I would recommend a simple cardiac check-up: EKG, echocardiogram and cardiac stress test.

Also, I would recommend a further change in diet:
- green or dark green leafy vegetables amd fruit up to 300 grams a day;
- the white of an egg, not the red part;
- fish and chicken and other poultry,
not red or raw meat;
- 60 minutes physical activity daily, this is not neccesary to be strenuous activity, but also walking, jogging, biking etc.

In the case of the high blood pressure, I would suggest you to wait until the blood parameters are back and then discuss with your treating physician about the need to add or maximize the dosafe of a drug, and to discuss about some other tests to confirm what causes your hypertension.
