Suggest Treatment For Low Grade Fever, High Cholesterol And Fatty Liver

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Feb 2015
Question: I have a low grade fever at certain times when I take my temp. around 99.3 or 99.7. Other times, it is coming up as 97.8, or around that temp. I don't understand what is going on? My body feels like I am burning but when I take my temp, it doesn't show a fever. I am confused. I am waiting on my blood work to come back checking my thyroid, as I was reading on this. I had blood work done in Dec with all normal counts, except my cholesterol is high and have a fatty liver. I was just diagnosed with gastritis, and have been taking protonix, and I felt like this was also adding to my body temp? could this be? I do take vitamins and I just started taking calcium pills and iodine pills the other day, and other vitamins for my stomach including ginger root. can you please help me? thank you! I also get really hott around 7 am for the past 2 days.. very strange. it lasted for 5 min and then I got cold again??

Brief Answer:
Hormonal imbalance and hyperthyroidism

Detailed Answer:
Good day.
Noted your concerns and sorry to hear about your symptoms. I noted that you have episodic feeling of heat sensations over body. Hyperthyroidism is one of the reasons for this. Noted that you are awaiting the thyroid blood results.

How are your periods? Are they regular ?
These heat sensations could be due to hormonal imbalance as well. The drugs which you take for gastritis will not contribute to your symptoms .
Please let me know once you know your thyroid blood works

I was on birth control pills for a very long time, almost about 8 10 years. I stopped taking them last month. This month is going to be the first month that I am not on the pill and will get my period. It is actually supposed to come any day now, as I got it last month at the end of Dec. Can this have anything to do with my hormones since my body is used to taking the pill and now I am not? What if blood works comes back okay for my thyroid. Can this be treated? I hate feeling hott. I have energy, and I am working out at the gym and wide awake at work, but my body is giving out so much heat. I hate this! Please let me know what I can do. and can this be something more serious? I believe I am freaking myself out by reading the stupid internet! Can you get back to me quickly?

Brief Answer:
Hormone withdrawal effects

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Sorry for the delay . It was late at night when i responded yesterday. We are allmost 9 hours ahead of your time zone.

If you took birth control pill for such a long time, then it can take a while for your pituitary and ovary to start producing hormones again. This hormone withdrawal itself would be contributing to the heat senation what you feel now. Wait for your periods and if they are delayed or absent during next 2 months, we may have to evaluate further. Till then, please take natural estrogens like Flax seeds, Evening primrose oil, Soya beans etc which contain phyto etstrogens.

If the thyroid blood work is normal, then please relax. Please do not read the blogs and internet stories written by non professionals. That can lead to anxiety and confusion. While you are waiting for the thyroid blood works it may be worth doing a CBC ( complete blood count) and ESR to rule out any infections which again can lead to low grade fever like sensations.

Hi, thank you for your follow up. I guess what I am feeling is heat all over my body which is making me believe I have a low grade fever. I went to the doctor yesterday, as I was just too paranoid, and she took my temperature and my temperature in my ear was 98.1 and my temp under my tongue was 98.7. She told me I do not have a fever, and she told me that it can be related to the meds I am mixing or the BC pill which I just got off of. I was on the pill where you get your period every 3 months instead of every month, so I wonder if this one is worse to get off of? I still had hot flashes last night, and didn't get much sleep. This has been making me crazy, but am going to see my gyno today just to talk to her about it. Is the evening primrose oil bad to use and only prescribed by a doctor? Other than my hot body, I am not tired and I am not weak. Very much awake even on 4 hours of sleep, surprisingly! I had a full blood work up in Dec, and everything was normal except for high cholesterol. DO you think I need another work up now? I just never knew that being on Birth Control for so long, over 10 years, can have this affect on you. I hate it. Any other suggestions would help. Should I take flax seeds straight off a spoon? or mixed with something? thank you!!!

I had my blood work back and there is no high thyroid or anything. Just waiting on the antibody thyroid to see that one. thank you

Brief Answer:
FSH

Detailed Answer:
Okay, you were on a long acting pill. It may take a while for your normal periods to resume and till then you may have similar symptoms. Evening prim XXXXXXX oil is available in any super market in the mdicine section. Doesnt usually need a prescription. Flax seeds are another good source of natural hormones. you take mix with your morning cereal or just eat it straight away from a spoon

If you have had a normal blood work, pleae do not repeat any more test.
The only other thing i would suggest is to do an FSH and LH in the morning. If the FSH is elevated, then we can confirm hotflushes and in that case, you may need further evaluation.
Many doctors may not agree to this and they may want you to wait for couple of months before any test is done.

Good to hear tha your thyroid blood works are normal

so if I have blood work in December, and everything was okay , I wouldn't need to run them again, right?
Also, what Is FSH and LH? where do I get this and what kind of tests are these?
I am def going through Hot flushes, no doubt! and when I think of it, it gets worse as I am stressing my self out!

Thank you! you have been so helpful!

Brief Answer:
FSH test

Detailed Answer:
FSH and LH are pituitary hormones which acts on your ovary and regulate your periods. When you are on a birth control pills, FSH and LH is suppressed and that is the basis of contraception. Periods and pregnancy are prevented by suppressing FSH and LH.

But for some reason, if your FSH is high ( > 20) then you will need further evaluation. Rise in FSH is one of the reason for hot flushes. You can get this test done in most labs. They have to be done in the fasting state and between 7 to 9 am

Okay.. who would order these tests? Would I have to see an endocrinologist for this? If this is suppressed, what can be the reason why? Is this something to worry about?

Brief Answer:
FSH test

Detailed Answer:
If it is suppressed, it is expected after prolonged use of birth control pills. But if it is elevated, then we need to be concerened. This is espcially relevent on the background of hotflushes.

An endocrinologist or a gynecologist or even a general practitioner wil be able to order it. I am off to bed now as it is half XXXXXXX midnight here and will answer your questions ( if there are any) tomorrow AM
