Question: Hello, dealing with some strange symptoms and wanted to get a second opinion possible from a Neurologist if available. I'm sure it seems like I am chasing after something that may not be there, but my symptoms are similar to what my mom started with. By the time she reached 46... she became fully disabled after an illness that was never diagnosed and left her in full catatonic state for a month. Only real clue I have is for me it started with a reactivated EBV state that caused Mono, it was horrific. Once I began to recover, fatigue returned, anorexia to a degree. My throat was sore but looked good, no high fevers. Doctor didn't think Mono again, I urged her to test and she was confused. My EBV titers indicated latency of course but indicated as well a NEW infection. Ataxia and Muscle spasms began early April. First with severe cramping in my left arch. Then it spread throughout body over weeks. I would even experience what felt like bone pain in certain areas that would migrate, true cramping within my joints started to really plague me. The cramping sometimes in the finger joints would even reach the smallest area would leave that finger weak for sometime after the cramp. Cramping even reaching my neck area as well as chest area around ribs.
Super cold hands and feet happened off an on, no signs of color change. My gait is off when I first stand up if I do it too quickly. I had night sweats off an on, not drenching but close. Widespread pain that has been ongoing for weeks it what feels like my kidney area - treated for an infection UTI, after full antibiotic course the pain remains. ODD headaches and tingles that fire off and on mostly from scalp and spreads from there.
Strange symptoms in my opinion of all symptoms is the itchiness of my scalp/underarm area and the frequent mouth sores. Cognitive deficits, hard to remember what day of the week it is.
(NO STDS) (NO ILLICIT DRUG USE) (WINE AVG 4 GLASSES A WEEK) (NON TRADITIONAL SMOKER) I do use a vapor
If I go outside in the heat right now and move around a while, it causes these symptoms to exacerbate. CBC counts come back normal, Hormone/Thyroid levels normal, Slightly higher than lab standards noted for Progexytestosterone 17. When in ER with severe cramps and BP reading of 144/104 - the cramping and muscle spasms were clearly evident and noted by ER physician but bloodwork for hydration levels, minerals and vitamin levels all came back good. ER physician suggested a Neuro. Completed MRI with family doctor of Brain - called me today that everything is fine. Suggested medication side effects: Risperidone (1mg nightly) however I tend to skip it sometimes and Adderall (30mg/10mg) in that order daily although I tend to skip that sometimes as well.
Father - strange health issues including a bald tongue / Psoriatic Arthritis / Constant mouth sores
Mother - One doctor suggested Rheumatoid, another dispelled that / Major cognitive deficits

Brief Answer:
Peripheral neuropathy to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

I examined the brain MRI images you uploaded too.

There is not any identifiable lesion in the MRI images you uploaded, so, there is not a specific condition of brain that may justify your symptoms.

Adverse effects of drugs you use may cause such symptoms, but it is necessary to evaluate and exclude other conditions that may cause such symptoms.

These conditions include peripheral neuropathy, that may be linked to viral infection, side effects of drugs you use, low vitamin B12, etc.

Besides getting evaluated by a Neurologist, nerve conduction study and EMG are necessary to understand better your condition.

Discuss with your Doctor about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Thank you!

I feel better hearing this from a non XXXXXXX doctor. No offense to us here in XXXXXXX but many times have I been told incorrectly. Just in the ER I mentioned I thought I had a UTI and she said that I did not after blood work and urine test. Returned to family doctor days later who looked at the report from hospital and ran another test and I most certainly had a UTI.

The MRI image with the large black area... Is that a sinus infection? I do not have sinus symptoms such as pain, draining etc. However when I looked into my nose on the corresponding side, I notice swelling that nearly closes off my nostril. I didn't realize this as I may be more of a mouth breather. The swelling, is larger and pushing from cheek area / the other side of nostril smaller swelling. All in all the airway hole looks to be decreased by 80% compared to the other nostril entry way that looks clean and clear.

Brief Answer:
ENT evaluation is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

It is difficult to get a correct understanding of the black area into sinuses just by looking at few MRI images.

It could be polip, infection, mass or an artefact, especially if you have metal implants in your mouth.

However, getting evaluated by an ENT Doctor about this issue is necessary to be sure about the true nature of this MRI finding.

As per brain, again, there are no visible lesions.

Ebv/mono infection indicated that there is actually a weaker immune system.

Hope this helps.

In good health.
