Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: I am a 68 yr. old female and out of the hospital fro 2 weeks after a 1 week stay for volatile blood pressure and seizure activity. I have been on Xanax for many years and fairly well dependent on it (4x day, l mg). My new medications are Cyclobenzaprine 5mg. 3x per day or as needed (quit taking 6 days ago); Carbamazepine (100mg) for seizure 1 tab 2x day(quit taking 6 days ago). Suspected the last 2 drugs were perhaps a problem.; Compazine; Verapamil (120mg.) 1 tab in eve. Relative to an onset of tachycardia I have Inderal 20 mg. 1 tab 2x pr. day;. Lactulose 10GM/15ML 3 x day or as needed Ursodiol, to prevent or dissolve gallstones, 1 cap 2x daily; 100mcg. Fentanyl patch, change every 3rd day, Phenergan as needed for nausea; Ondansetron (Zofran) 8 mg. as needed for nausea; Percocet or Endocet 10mg-325mg. acet. for pain, which I only take as needed.. I was diagnosed with MS 40 years ago, but since a child I think it was more of an autoimmune disease. I am nauseous again after 2 weeks and regurgitate everything. My body feels like it is on fire and I am concerned that the drugs I am on are contradictory relative to side effects. Thank You much for your ideas.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com I am Dr.J XXXXXXX Anto Bruno Mascarenhas, and I am here to help you. I have read your question with care and understand you have had volatile Blood Pressure and Seizure Activity.

You have been on the Following Drugs
1. Alprazolam (Xanax)
2. Cyclobenzaprine
3. Carbamazepine
4. Prochlorperazine (Compazine)
5. Verapamil
6. Propanolol (Inderal)
7. Lactulose
8. Ursodiol
9. Fentanyl
10. Promethazine (Phenargan)
11. Ondansetron
12 Acetaminophen and Oxycodone (Percocet)

At present you feel like your body is on fire. This is because of peripheral Neuropathy probably due to your long standing fluctuating Blood Pressure. The drugs do have side effects, but burning sensation is quite rare. It is more likely due to peripheral neuropathy

You have to add Vitamin Supplements

1. To start with Take Cap.Zincovit three times a day for 45 days and then you can reduce the dose
2. In Addition Gabapentin 300 mg or Pregabalin 75 mg can reduce the burning sensation

Hope you found the answer helpful.
