Brief Answer:
Go for spirometry or try inhaled medicines

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
As per the protocol if you have cough for more than a month get checked for tuberculosis. It is free at any district tuberculosis centre or hospital. They will give you sputum bulb and you just have to submit the sputum.
This was what protocol says. Now if I analyse your symptom, you received oral steroid and anti allergic twice to get your symptom controlled. What I feel is you have got asthma. So I will advise you to get a simple breathing test called spirometry with reversibility testing. Alternatively you may try inhaled medication like formoterol budesonide combination twice daily. This will ease your symptoms especially wheezing at nights and give you symptom free life.
One more thing if you frequently suffer colds, have frontal headaches, frequent sneezing then you may have concomitant allergic rhinitis. If it is then you may require nasal spray consisting of azelastine fluticasone.

Best wishes

Dear Dr Choubey

Sorry , lung function test was done and was OK. Asthma, I can tell you , despite these issues go to gym thrice a week and can exercise without any problem and without any shortage of breath.
The problem started few weeks after I quit smoking, and I heard many people undergo this problem after quitting smoking.
Currently doctor has give me mouth inhaler medicine as well .
Negative I do not have sneezing, headached, fever, body ache, nothing except bouts of coughing and wheezing.

Brief Answer:
Continue inhaled medication. ..

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow up.
Nice to know the positive aspects of your history.
Let me tell you asthma is a disease of variable symptoms. The patient may be breathless in early morning hours but he may be Ok in the afternoon.
Giving up smoking may slightly increase the cough symptoms as nicotine has bronchodillator effect which is withdrawn.
They best of you will be taking the inhaler which must have contained salbutamol with steroid like beclomethasone on as needed basis during cough bouts. And when you need it too much then better switch to formoterol budesonide 400 combination inhaler.

Best wishes
