Is Dry Mouth And Swollen Lymph Nodes Symptoms Of HIV?

default
Posted on Thu, 25 Sep 2014
Question: Hi,

I have been asking several things but I decided to put them all together and see what I can get from this:

1) Around may I had a very dry mouth and I felt a swollen sub mandibular gland. Left side. It resolves after a month or bit more
2) Around beginning of august I began feeling swollen lymph nodes in my armpits, sharp pain. No fever. This evolve with pain in my arms and hands, like they were swollen. Difficulty to extend arm. Also some "muscle" (I think) pain in neck, they resolved.
3) A week later, swollen around the paratoid area. More in the left in the right, just swollen and sharp pains through the day. No fever.
4) I went to the doctor on Sep 1st. Nodes, on my judgement, were better. Doctor palpate nodes (axillary, cervical) and said he didn't feel anything to worried. Order a blood count and told me "if something is wrong, I call you back" more than a week has passed and there is no answer so I am assuming no news = good news.
4) Parallel to this, I have a pain in my left leg since May. It began one day I woke up and I had it. It is in the upper leg, back side, close to the knee. It hurts when I walk and when I wake up. It is not unbearable but it is annoying. Also I have a pain in my foot, the same side of the leg. it feels close to the toes. It resembles the pain I had in my hand before.
5) Recently I have felt sharp pains in the area close to the inguinal nodes of my left leg. I cannot confirm anything is swollen because well I don't know.
6) My skin is definitely weird. I get sometimes red dots in my hand. I had been able to control them with claritin. I will post a pic with this dots if I find one.
7) Sometimes I feel warm but I don't have a fever (checked with thermometer)
8) i have discover I am accumulating food behind my tonsils, not sure if both. I also developed two growings in the area. I asked about them in another question and they were deem normal.

Futhermore, I am a XXXXXXX men. I have only had three sexual partners between may and today. All intercourse has been protected except insertive or receptive oral. I have tested for HIV, Gonorrhea and Chlamydia recently and everything negative. Syphilis in may, negative as well. I had another blood count in XXXXXXX everything fine except transaminases, just a biiiiit over, probably due to an old HepA infection (2006). Protein C reactive normal as well.

I am getting crazy of all these symptoms and not having a clue on how to solve them. Doctor didn't seem worried but I think he didn't dig enough. This is affecting me psychologically because I don't find an answer. I am definitely stress for other factors but this doesn't look like my normal stress reaction (which is normally stomach related)

Please, give me some light!

Brief Answer:
Not STDs or HIV.May be due to Anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
As all the tests have come negative for STDs you need not worry.
The transmission by oral route is almost nil for HIV until there are ulcers in your oral cavity which is unlikely.
The oral cavity photos do not show any significant abnormality.these minor enlargements do exist in the tonsillar area and do not signify anything until it causes symptoms. They are not due to any STDs.You do warm saline gargle 3-4 times per day.take warm water.
The symptoms you have quotes are all due to your anxiety towards HIV and i do not see any reason for you to worry. You can take some MultiVitamin tablets.
Th rash in the hands may be due to some allergy or dryness .Use moisturising soaps or cleansers.
You can remove all anxiety about STDs and HIV.
You can get back to me for any clarifications.
Thank you
Dr Bharatesh

Hi Dr.

Good. I can think of other things non-STD related. How about the lymph nodes?

The lymph nodes symptoms began after a month of receptive oral were my mouth had a cut. No ejaculation. I tested 7 weeks after and negative and here in my country this is deem conclusive. We don't use the 3 months period anymore.

But, ok, is there aaaaaany other thing that can give me these weird symptoms? NON std related.

Brief Answer:
Local infections.Not HIV

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
You have not specified the test name for HIV.it depends on the test done the conclusions are drawn.3 months are for antibody tests.still earlier results are given by PCR and P24 antigen tests.
Lymph nodes are not felt by your doctor or considered insignificant so there is no point to worry about it.These can occur due to any local infections in oral cavity like pharyngitis or injury or tonsillitis etc.
there should be persistent lymphnodes of >2cm size in more than 3 groups to think of HIV.
Take some MultiVitamin tablets and get relieved of your anxiety .You can do Yoga ,meditations, exercises to relax
You can get back to me for any clarifications else please close the discussion and rate.

It was a normal antibody test, a rapid one. In my country, Sweden, they are considered conclusive at 8 weeks now. They change the rules for these tests. Two different nurses with hiv experience told me not to worried about hiv, due to negative result and extremely low risk.

Brief Answer:
conclusive if with P24Ag test

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query.
If it is negative it is good but antibodies can take 3 months to occur and rarely 6 months in few .so can come negative..it is not considered conclusive till 3 months from exposure.
If there is combo test with P24 Ag and Antibody test then it may be conclusive.
You can get back for any clarification else close the discussion and rate.
Thank you
Dr Bharatesh
