How To Pacify Pitta In Body?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Oct 2014
Question: Hello,
I am 30 yr old man. My diet is predominately non-veg. i am a big foodie and enjoy eating non-veg. in the last 15 days i have been feeling heavy and feel hot most of times. i also sweat alot. I was reading online and my symptoms are similiar to 'Pitta'.
I also have recuring skin infections and redness of skin, boils. feeling agitated, heavy stomach but feeling hungry etc some acidity.. like my mother would say ' body system is heated' 'Garmi ho gayi hain' etc..
We have a family function so cannot avoid eating no veg/heavy food for next 10-15 days. what medicines, home remeides can i do for 'cooling my digestive system'. i have started taking gulkand with cold milk shake..
I also have skin disorders like fungal infections, inflamation of groin skin, itching in the perianal area due to sweat etc.. I had taken some anti fungals for groin and groin is ok now.. but there is itching in perianal area.. Earleir a doctor had prescribed arogyavardini tabet, gandhak rasayan for itching condition of skin..

My 2 questions are-
1) what can be done to counter pitta like symtpoms and cool the body( assuming my diet habit doesnt change)
2) what can be done for itching in perinal area and groin.
Thanks for reading my long query and in anticipation of providing me with detailed point wise answer

Brief Answer:
Prophylactic Aspect and need of Examination

Detailed Answer:
Dear

Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and following recommendations are worth mentioning:

A. PITTA PACIFYING DIET

1. In Ayurveda 'pitta' is responsible for 'metabolism' and when one takes mainly pitta pre dominant diet [non veg]: this results in faster metabolism causing release of heat from the body [garmi] and results in disruption of normal metabolism [heaviness] and chemical imbalance in body [sweating].

PS. It is accompanied by symptoms like heart burn, skin rashes, acidity, excessive perspiration, acne, loose stools [as indicated by recurring skin infections/itching in your history], do check with your blood sugar/thyroid/cholesterol level and opinion of skin specialist for any underlying cause of the same

2. AVOID:
. fried, spicy,fast/processed/salty food which increases body temperature, caffeine smoking, drinking, nuts
. exposure to sun, wearing tight clothing which traps moisture
PS. hot and humid environment/climate does not allow proper INTERNAL regulation of body temperature [Sweating is good for EXTERNAL regulation]
. avoid sugar, prefer honey to regulate heat.
.strenuous/physical activity
.
3. TAKE:
. Maintain proper hydration: plenty of fluids orally. [since sweating is one channel for water loss]
PS. Take plenty of water, at least 8-10 glasses per day, which improves urine output, and re hydrates the skin (but if exposure to heat is more) add little of black pepper, lemon and salt to it or simply have ORS sachets or “Shadangpaniya” (available at all Ayurveda Stores) with you.
. cucumber, buttermilk, cardamom, peaches, banana, sugarcane juice, apricots, coconut water, water melon, steamed green vegetables.
. Massage with herbal oils to improve blood circulation for better elimination of heat.
. Replace refined flour with whole grain food items: wheat bread, whole grain bread, brown rice, barley and other whole grain products. However, do not forget to consult your dietitian before making any major dietary changes in your daily diet.
. Pranayam, XXXXXXX namaskar are effective Yoga techniques and when combined with meditation helps in cooling of body and calming of mind.
. herbal Teas help lowering body temperature. I personally prefer fennel and mint tea.
. Since Vitamin C naturally lowers body heat, take diet/fruits [citrus] rich in it.
. Cilantron juice (Coriander/Dhaniya) either purchased or made in home is an ideal summer drink for you.
. Ashwagandharishta and Balarishta both 15-15ml (3tsf each) with equal amount of water after meals (after breakfast, and dinner)
. Ushirasav 25ml (5tsf) after meals with equal amount of water (after lunch)

B. REMEDIES FOR ITCHING [SWEAT RASH]

i. Sweat rash is commonly found in areas of skin which rub together and perianal/ groin region is no such exception.
PS. consult a Dermatologist, to rule out ‘Dhobi’ itch or ‘Jock’ itch which is ringworm of the skin of the groin?

ii. Regarding itching in peri anal area, make sure you consult with a Surgeon who might look for any Anal pathology and also advice for SITZ bath. {eat plenty of fiber and fruits to keep your stool soft, in the mean time you can use a mild antiseptic (available Over the Counter) for anal area.

Hi Thanks for your detailed answer.
The symptoms described by you are exactly my symptoms.

The skin infection is not ring worm as confirmed by dermatologist . Also i donot have sugar.

Can you pls summarise which tonics/medicines I can take. Request you to advise prophylactic medicine only i.e for prevention and general upkeep and maintainence of well being. i donot wish to take any strong medicines but some tonics for curing pitta disorder which can prevent further heating of body.

also is there any medicine for general well being of skin( protection from inflamation and infections). can i continue taking 2 arogyawardhini tabs and one gandhak rasayan and manjishtha daily? I had discontinued these.

Will really appreciate if you can explain quantities and also for how long the medicine should be taken.

Pitta and Skin Management

Detailed Answer:
Dear

Thanks for reverting back with your concern.

1. Ushir assav is one such medicine which is used to control
. excess sweating,
. body heat and
. fungal infections, you can buy it from Ayurveda store and take 25ml (5tsf) with equal amount of water (after lunch) [if you find dose is strong then start with 10ml [2 tsf] with equal amount of water]

PS. XXXXXXX assav is another medicine which one can take if he/she finds ushir assav to be against his/her body.

2. In Ayurveda 'amla' is said to be rasayan for pitta [due to its anti oxidant properties], taking amla with water in morning is the best way to cool internal hotness.

PS. other which pacifies pitta are: pomegranate [juice is ideal], draksha, yashtimadhu [mulethi], kharjoor, nariyal

3. because Skin & Nervous system has a common Embryological origin (thus acting as an initiating or aggravating factor), thus treatment is directed as "Psychosomatic Treatment"
1. arogya vardhini 2
gandhak rasayan 2
with manjishtha kwatha 20ml... twice daily

2. tablet Mentat: 2 tablet at bed time with water

continue for atleast 4 months and consider opinion of panchkarma doctor in between for any procedure which is best suited according to condition.

Thanks doctor for your detailed reply.

Last night i noticed some blood on the toilet roll after passing stools. i think this could be a case of piles. i am worried and embarrased.

1) how seriuos is this? Is this curable/temporary or life long management is required.
2) would you like to change/add any of medicines mentioned by you above.
3) i read on internet that Tab Mentat is for mental concentration and focus can you pls explain to me how this will help me in my symptoms and how it could benefit me

Brief Answer:
Examination and Prophylactic Aspect

Detailed Answer:
Dear

Thanks for reverting back with your concern.

1. although it seems to be a case of piles, initially check up with a general surgeon is mandatory.
PS.
i. Seriousness will be decided after examination
ii. management will depend upon the degree of pile [again examination is necessary], if it comes out normal, do let me know so that preventive medicines can be initiated which will cure root cause of the problem and not just temporary cure the problem.
iii. Since as explained earlier:
. Skin and nervous system has common origin thus in skin infection we have to take into consideration nervous system as well.
. Any Problem with nervous system is reflected on the skin thus again treatment has to be given keeping in mind the inter connection.
. As such 'Psycho somatic' [mano daihik chikitsa] treatment is given and Mentat is given because it relaxes/calm the mind [mental concentration just for nut shell], if you want something else you can buy 'brahmi vati' [2 tablet at bed time]
PS. some people with brahmi vati experience side effects like problem with digestion, if it occur in you, Mentat is the safest option with good results

2. Are you suffering from constipation [since it is cause and effect of piles]?
PS. or it can be the result of taking too much of spicy foods, since there are associated digestive problem [heaviness, hotness, acidity]since low digestive fire is cause of piles and hypothyroidism]?
3.Prior to Examination, in the mean time I suggest dietary regime that includes -

TAKE: high fibre diet, fresh fruits and vegetables, avoid milk and milk products in diet, excess of tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol and carbonated beverages.
- eat slowly, avoid haste-irregular eating and sweet/heavy food which are difficult to digest and cause indigestion.
- take less of strong spices (ginger, garlic), oily-fried-fatty food and flatus producing foods (peas, beans, dals)
- take old rice, bottle gourd, moong dal, XXXXXXX marich, pomegranate, jaiphal, hot water, adequate rest and sleep.
- 1 glass lukewarm water every morning and night.
- to stop bleeding: coconut water from 1 coconut and add 2 table spoon full (tsf) sugar and drink.
- drink 1 cup potato juice daily for 1 month.
- 3 pinches dried ginger+ 2 cup butter milk, drink after lunch and dinner for 1 month
- eat 2 tsf plain white butter + 1 tsf sesame powder before lunch and dinner and drink 2 cup butter milk + 3-4 pinches of black salt after lunch and dinner
- take: elephant yam, papaya, butter milk, pistachio, almonds, pear, old brown rice, milk, crystallized sugar, raw radish and avoid tea, coffee, garlic, onion, fish, hot spices, sitting for long hours.
PS: .if job demands sitting, make sure you get up every half an hour to relax for 5 minutes and then sit back, make a sponge cushion for your chair.
. piles, is due to low digestive fire and taking amla & aloe vera juice will help in cleansing the liver to speed up the metabolism so can be taken.

Brief Answer:
Piles Management

Detailed Answer:
Dear

Thanks for reverting back.

1. instead of nityam churan which means one has to take it regularly try 'trifla churan'.
PS. Trifla because of its high nutritional-detoxification [Shodhan] and cleansing value is very helpful in treating your present complaints. [take 3 gm with XXXXXXX warm water at bed time]

2. Septilin is good as Immunomodulator [improving immunity] and also for general well being.
PS. make sure to avoid pitta diet which might aggravate your symptoms of piles

3. take fried cumin seeds 500mg,
fried asafetida (hing) 125mg,
XXXXXXX parpati 500mg, mix them and take with honey three times a day.

4. one very good and result oriented medicine for the same is:
Tablet Pilon: 2 tablet twice a day [after meals] for 2 months
Ointment Pilon: to be applied 5 minutes before and after passing stool.\

Brief Answer:
Clarification and Prognosis

Detailed Answer:
Dear

Thanks for reverting back.

1. Tablet and ointment pilon: as suggested
2. Ushirassav: 10ml with equal amount of water
3. Septilin is indicated for following conditions:
i.As a daily health supplement in infection prone individuals. [low immunity]
PS. Septilin possesses Immunomodulators and anti-inflammatory properties, which potentiate the non-specific immune responses of the body, it builds up resistance to infection and helps prevent re- infection
ii.Respiratory infections
iii. Infective and Inflammatory conditions
iv.Urinary tract infections
Dose:
In Syrup form: 2 teaspoonfuls: 3 times a day
In Tablet form: 2 tablet twice daily for 1 month, followed by 1 tablet twice daily as maintenance therapy [can be taken before/with or after meals], choice is your but make sure to stick with it.
4. Trifla churan 3 gm [1 tsf] with XXXXXXX warm water at bed time
5. Kailash XXXXXXX cream is used externally to cure itching, acne, dermatitis, abrasion
PS. If you are using it and doctor says it is in early stage you can continue with it.
6. Since Piles usually occurs due to excessive pressure on the veins in the pelvic and rectal area thus there is no association between the two, keep drinking the same.
7. avoid holding or delaying a defecation process, keep your anal region dry and clean. stay hydrated and take fibre rich diet and practice life style management as discussed above, you will see improvement within a month and cure between 6 months.
PS. Since in Ayurveda we hold that Piles-Diarrhea-Grahani to be due to low digestive fire, so as long as your Metabolism [AGNI] is normal these disorders will not be seen.
