Having Erythema And Edema Under Eyes Along With The Burning. Can I Use Locoid?

Posted on Fri, 20 Dec 2013
Question: Thank You in advance for your professional advice and recommendations. It is now 3 days post laser treatment. Concerned due to the excess erythema and edema under eyes along with the burning. Used Aveńe Cicalfate for the days following with the exception of last night. Slathered Aquaphor everywhere and the heat substantially improved. Been drinking a gallon and half of water and green tea since procedure. Taking Doxy and Valt since night before standard as per Dr. Can I use Locoid for under eyes and for how long? Or what do you suggest to use or do for the "rawness" under eyes? Thank You again!!

Brief Answer: Kindly see the suggestions below Detailed Answer: Hello, Welcome and thanks for posting your query to Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern for the post laser redness and edema below eyes. As per your query it is almost 72 hours of laser. In general most of lasers do produce mild to moderate erythema and edema after the procedure. It is quite common to find erythema as well as edema for few hours post laser and then it subsides within 24 hours. But as I can get it is 72 hours since the procedure is done, so it would be best if you can tell me some important things: 1. Can you please tell the condition for which you had gone for laser ( for hair removal or for skin rejuvenation or anything related) 2. Can you please tell the laser machine used ( if do not know then also there is no issues) 3. You felt edema and erythema just after laser or it took some hours to develop the same. 4. Is there any pain or itching or tenderness at the under eye site. 5. Any area of deep redness from which oozing is present or if you can please elaborate about the "rawness". The best of the part would be to send few good resolution pictures of the area so that it can be analyzed best. You have a feature to upload images by yourself at the right side of the query page, please utilize that so that I can answer your queries better. Or else, you can send as an attachment to YYYY@YYYY with the subject as "Attn: Dr. Sanjay Kanodia). In between kindly follow the suggestions below: 1. Do cold compression on the affected area. Take a cold towel and dip in cold water and put it over the affected area for 3-4 times for 5 minute each. 2. You can apply Locoid cream over the affected area for two times. Apply it in thin layer so that it should not be visible to the naked eyes. DO not massage, just gently apply it. 3. You can apply calamine lotion also in between the locoid application. Apply it in thin layer so that it should not be visible to the naked eyes. Again do not massage, just gently apply it. 4. Do not unnecessarily touch the area at all as it may aggravate the situation. 5. Do not expose to sun light. 6. No any other home remedies please. 7. You can take a pain killer tablet like paracetamol for two times if pain is present or can take Loratadine (claritin) tablet if itching is present. I hope these information will help you. Waiting for your reply so that I can guide you further. Regards. Dr Sanjay Kumar Kanodia MD (Dermatology)

Is there any pain or itching or tenderness at the under eye site. ANSWER: No pain, itchiness or tenderness. Feels like a bad sunburn. 5. Any area of deep redness from which oozing is present or if you can please elaborate about the "rawness". ANSWER: No oozing, blood, or signs of infection. Rawness, in comparison to how the rest of face and chest feels. Precisely, when I am applying Aquaphor on chest or other areas of face, it does not feel sensitive like under eyes. Thank You!!!

Brief Answer: kindly see the mail below Detailed Answer: Hello XXXXXXX Welcome again to the forum and thanks for your swift reply. I have gone through the pictures sent by you and after analyzing the complete condition with diligence, it is a normal sequel of the laser procedure which is much required in facial rejuvenation. I initially predicted of laser hair removal process in which this sort of erythema and edema is not present. But now I am pretty relaxed to know that this was for facial rejuvenation. The rest of things are quite much required in facial rejuvenation as there need to be collagen remodulation as well as development due to this kind of erythema and edema. You can very well continue with the suggestions as told before. Do not apply the locoid cream for beyond 7 days of period. This erythema and edema may persist for next 3-4 days as per the procedure. Take best of your diet containing proteins and vitamin C in it. This will help in collagen ( type of protein in our dermal skin) remodulation at the best. As told before, do not apply any other thing or any home remedies like aquaphor. It can lead to hyper pigmentation as the skin is bit sensitive.Even for calamine lotion also use a bland lotion without any fragrance/ additional contents in it. You may feel bit of tightness after 4-5 days, stop applying the same after the feeling of tightness or dryness. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help. "glowing skin wishes to you" With regards, Dr Sanjay
