Posted on Mon, 28 Mar 2016
Question: I have cold from last 2 weeks and throat infection from last 5 days and heavy cough from last 3 days. I got fever yesterday. As of now fever reduced. I have taken one paracetamol yesterday evening.
Can I use AZAX-500 ? If not please tell me the best medication.

I have tried goggling mixture of hot water and salt. I have taken more than 3 ginger tea. Also taken lemon water with honey and hot water with honey as home remedies.

Brief Answer:
Most likely due to secondary bacterial infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to secondary bacterial infection after getting a viral respiratory infection. In such case antibiotic therapy will be required.

Azax 500 (Azithromycin) is a good antibiotic which gives broad coverage. This is usually given once daily for 3 to 5 days according to severity. This is a prescription drug. You can approach your GP for this. Taking mucolytic syrups containing dextromethorphan or bromhexine and antihistamines like chlorpheniramine will be helpful in expectoration of sputum and controlling cough.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
