What Causes Nasal Congestion, Red Eyes And Soreness In Sinus?

Ok, I have had bacterial conjunctivitis on and off for over a month. Also had a throat infection about a month ago (antibiotics, Distaclor, cleared it up). Have had 2 antibiotic eye drops prescribed within the last month and still no joy. Now have very blocked nose and sore sinusis (history of sinusitis) along with red, gooey eye s. Any ideas??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Recurrent conjunctivitis indicate towards some allergic problem or such disease that needs to be seen by an Ophthalmologist for proper diagnosis and management as per his clinical evaluation and investigations.
This can be related to infection in the nose wherein the infection travels from naso-lacrimal duct that is used for tears to flow from eyes to nose. Hence detailed evaluation of nose and sinuses by an ENT Surgeon can help to find any cause.
I would advise you to go for ENT Endoscopy, CT scan of nose and sinuses, throat swab, relevant tests of blood.
All this will lead to a proper diagnosis.
Use nasal decongestant drops, anti-inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen, oral decongestant and further prescription based management as per the advise of your treating Doctors.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
