Can Administering Sinarest Through The Nose Cause Any Complications?

Question: My baby girl is 4.5 months old..yesterday we went to paed for common cold and he prescribed sinarest af drops and mucolite drops..By mistake I have given sinarest af(3 drops in each nostril ) and mucolite drops( 3 drops in each nostril) in nose instead of oral..please advise if this will cause any serious complication

Nothing to worry about it - there maybe nasal irritation

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... nothing to worry about it. But I suggest that you be on the lookout for nasal irritation which may present as nasal watery discharge or continuous sneezing or redness in the nose. Apart from this nothing else will happen. But sometimes the components in Sinarest can cause increased heart rate. So if the child is irritable and not feeding well then I suggest that you take her back to the pediatrician or nearest Emergency Room immediately.

I gave the sinarest drops around 8 am in the nose today morning..She was irritable since morning and was taking less feeds as compared to other days..Later I gave mucolite orally around 2 pm and she started to feed well in the evening as well as in night..should I still take her to my paed tomorrow..I stopped sinarest after 8 am today and didn't give her the night dose as well.. Also advise of I can give her sinarest combined with mucolite orally tomorrow..Otherwise she was active, breathed normally, had regular sleep as usual

Hi... I am glad that the baby is normal. Do not give Sinarest as it is a combination medicine and the ingredients are not licensed in this age group.

Cough and cold are viral 95% of the times in children. For cold you can use anti-allergics like cetirizine and for nose block, saline nasal decongestants will do. Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose (max ceiling dose 500mg) every 4-6th hourly, that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
For cold you can use Cetrizine at 0.25mg/kg/dose every 12 hourly for 3 days.
For nasal block, plain saline nasal drops will do, every 4-6th hourly to relive nasal congestion.

I will stop sinarest af..shall I continue to use mucolite oral drops( thrice in a day) and nasoclear saline drops for my baby

Hi....no need to use mucolite drops also. Even that is not licensed in this age group. I suggest you use only cetrizine and saline nasal drops.
