Posted on Sat, 2 Jul 2016
Question: Hi Doctor,
I was suffering from bad throat and fever 1 month back. Took Taxim O 200 for 5 days but it came back after 2 days after leaving the medicine. Then took Augmentin 625 but same happened. Then went to ENT and he gave me Dalacin for 5 days and asked me to go for Ultrasound if it doesnt cure..It came back again after 2 days and I went for US. It showed cysts in my thyroid gland. I went to an endo doc immediately and he prescribed some medicines and asked for FNAC and TPO tests(I never did that but suffering from hypothyroid since 11 years).
Im really concerned that the pain in my throat is due to cysts? Is it cancerous? How serious the condition is?Iam attaching my US summary document here.
I had anxiety since 2010 and suffering from panic attacks can thyroid cause that?

Medicines Iam on since 5-6 years
-thyronorm 100 mcg, glycomet 1000, Duloit 30 (for anxiety)
medicines prescibed by endo
-thyrowel, pantocid L, ventoz,

my current TSH level is 0.8, HB 10. Can I take pantocid L with Duloit?

Iam really very scared..Please help..can I get cured?

Thanks XXXX

Brief Answer:
There is no cause for worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Your sore throat and fever is probably viral infection hence the antibiotics have nog helped. Get a throat swab sent for culture & sensitivity.

2. Supportive treatment such as anti allergic, anti inflammatory, anti reflux medication and medicated gargles should settle your discomfort.

3. You can ignore the thyroid USG report. These small cystic areas are not responsible for the pain in the throat or fever. Repeat your Thyroid Function Tests.

4. There is no problem in taking duloxetine and pantoprazole together.

5. These conditions will not worsen any existing anxiety or panic and tracks.

6. Sometimes, dryness in the throat and pains can be due to side effects of your current medications. Review your medication with your doctor.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
Do not worry about your thyroid condition. Keep a regular follow-up.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. FNAC is going to be very difficult on 3 mm cysts unless it is done under USG (Ultrasound) guidance.

2. Since you are hypothyroid since 11 years, these findings are unlikely to be significant.

3. A thyroid scan (nuclear scan) can be used to check if these cysts are functioning tissue or not.

4. You can take a short course of Omnacortil 10 mg, but inform your doctor.

5. You should not worry about your thyroid condition. Keep a regular follow-up.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Thanks doctor,
I visited ENT and he diagnosed me with chronic pharyngitis. Gave viral medicines for 5 days and till then I was ok. After few days I had some nasal cold or something and again pain in throat started. My throat feels bruised and I had extreme fever. 105 degrees conticuously for 1 day. Unfortunately the doctor has left the hospital and I dont know what to do.
I went to physician and he gave me taxom O 400 BD. But, my throat is not having any relief.
My IGE levels were 345, throat culture was normal.Right now I feel little painful moving small balls at both sides of my neck and feeling extremely weak after high fever.
please help.!

Brief Answer:
Details discussed below:

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. The return of the symptoms and fever suggests a relapse as the throat culture shows no bacterial growth.

2. This may explain why the antibiotics are not effective. Supportive treatment is also required to control the symptoms. This includes anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory medication and medicated gargles. Take rest and maintain adequate hydration.

3. Your high IgE count may be due to an an underlying allergy. Specific testing is advised after you are better.

4. The moving lumps are lymph nodes reacting to the infection.

5. You should get your routine blood tests and throat culture repeated.

6. Let me know the progress.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
