Question: HiDr XXXXXXX

Goodevening,Few questions wanted to ask:

Just completed 22 weeks and my gynae says that baby's growth is fine .She has told me that there is a vaccine called Dtap vaccine for Diptheria,Tetanus and Pertussis which would be given to me on 28th week which would cover the new born baby for the first two months.I had a tetanus vaccine in the fifth month. Can i go for that.Is it safe?

Also , I had shared with her that I experience numbness in my hands quite often. So she had prescribed Fitneuron to me for 3 weeks.Just wanted to ask if fitneuron is safe during pregnancy or not .Also , I am not in favour of taking much medicines as in any case there are a lot of medicines I am taking. So can I skip it ? Hope it will not affect the baby.

My gynae had told that I can take Susten 300 on alternate days but sumhow I am not much comfortable taking it on alternate days as felt sum discomfort in stomach. Can i take it daily?.Hope it wud not be a problem as I am 34 .What is the role of Susten 300 in pregnancy.I take it vaginally.

I am taking Thyronorm 100, ecosprin 75, kalzium and fercovit and Susten300.Hope the medicines are correct

Brief Answer:
DTaP is safe.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
DTaP is a safe vaccine and can be taken during pregnancy. You can take it at 28 weeks as advised. Fitneuron is a multivitamin and is safe. It will not affect the baby but will help in decreasing the numbness.
Susten helps in placental attachment and prevents unexpected bleeding episodes. It is usually not needed after 14 weeks. It is not related to age. You can now decrease the dosage and then gradually stop it after 2 weeks. You can take it vaginally on alternate days.
All the medicines that you are taking are essential and are correct. You need not worry.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Dear Maam,

Thanks for your reply.I am clear about Dtap Vaccine.

Regarding Fitneuron, my gynae has advised me to take it for 3 weeks . What is the ideal time to take it?I did not take any medicine apart from pregnancy related ones so was quite freaked out. Hope Fitneuron will not cause any damage/problem/miscarriage to the baby. What if I do not take the medicine - Fitneuron.

What would be the problems if I take Susten 300 vaginally every night ?

Do I need to get me thyroid and Blood sugar checked once as I did last in March 2016?

Can i take Horlicks with milk ?

Can you suggest me some protein rich diet .

My bP IS 140/90 This is the first time my BP has shot since the beginning of my pregnancy.I have started walking and cut down on Salt ,Achar and all.I put very little salt in my food.Kindly suggest any better ways to keep BP in control

I am really freaked out , thus require your kind help

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Fitneuron can be taken throughout the pregnancy till term. It does not have any adverse effects on the baby. It does not cause a miscarriage. Not taking it can increase the numbness and discomfort due to it. It will not cause any long term damage even if you do not take the medicine.
Taking Susten in more than required doses can cause hormonal effects on the developing baby and will cause other side effects like persistent headache or nausea to you. It is best to reduce the dosage if your doctor has advised so. To be more sure you can get your serum progesterone levels evaluated and in case the levels are normal then you can stop using it gradually.
Ye. You need to get your thyroid hormone levels rechecked every six weeks during pregnancy to regulate the doses of thyronorm and get your stress test for glucose done at 22 weeks.
Yes you can take Mother's Horlicks with milk.
Do take milk, cheese, eggs and pulses in plenty.
The best way to control blood pressure is to decrease your salt intake to less than 3.5 grams in a day and start with daily mild exercise like 15 minute brisk walk. You can take potassium rich fruits like banana and coconut water also on regular basis.
Hope my answer is helpful.
Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.

Thanks so much Maam for your detailed answer .

I did not take Susten 300 yesterday night and by Grace of God I am not feeling any discomfort in my stomach but pain in my legs . Is it due to not taking Susten or just not related?I have Grade 1 Placenta Praevia, hope not taking Susten 300 regularly will not cause a problem in low lying placenta. I will though take Susten 300 alternately.

What is the safest term to give birth?

Now since the baby is on growing mode, and showing constant movement, hope there are remote/very few chances of miscarriage .

Can i eat Arbi (Colocassia), Lady finger (Bhindi)

And last but not the least thanks Maam for being a great help. You have helped me solve even my slightest doubts .

Regards,

Brief Answer:
The mild pain is not related to susten.

Detailed Answer:
The mild pain in the legs is not related to skipping of dose of susten. The low lying placenta grade I is a mild one. It will improve gradually by 30th week.
Usually it is safest to give birth after 37 weeks.
The chances of miscarriage after 22 weeks are very remote.
You can have Arbi or Bhindi.
Regards.
