Will Azithromycin And Rabeprazole Treat Difficulty In Swallowing?

Hello Doctor, I am 27/M. From past few months I have been having a little difficulty in swallowing saliva. It feels like some congestion is there in my throat. On preliminary check up with a doctor few weeks back, it was diagnosed as tonsils issue and some medication was prescribed but I have not seen any improvement in my condition.

I was prescribed RANAZY-500MG (Azithromycin Dihydrate IP) along with one Rabeprazole tablet.

I do not have any fever, cough or cold and I have taken 6 days course of above medication.

Please provide your inputs and prescribe some medication (easily available in medical stores in India) to cure my problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Azithromycin can help in tonsillitis-if the organism is sensitive to it. The Rabeprezol is antacid( May have given to avoid acidity due to azithromycin)- but it does not have role in treatment of tonsillitis.
Tonsellitis can cause difficulty in swallowing-which is associated with fever, swelling/pain/ difficulty in in swallowing,
It can be infective- bacterial/viral in origin.
* Viral tonsillitis is usually controlled with treatment with anti inflammatory drugs/ gargles within 5-7 days.
* But if it persists, a pathological test is needed for causative organism.
Treatment in such case consists of antibiotic (Azithromycin/amoxicillin/ amoxicillin calvunate-depending on sensitivity of causative bacteria) - along with anti inflammatory drug ( Ibuprofen -paracetamol combination)/ anti allergic pills as per need.
Gargles /Lozenges/cough syrups ade added as per need.
A consultation of ENT specialist helps in choosing antibiotic , in case of bacterial tonsillitis.
Thanks

Hello,
As per your query you are having tonsillitis which can be very well cured by medicines. Azithromycin if not working well then you can use some higher class of antibiotic like Amoxycillin plus clavulanic acid combintion 625 mg 2 times a day along with food.Take rabeprazole before meal. Let have a visit to an ENT specialist to completely assess your throat. Hope this is helpful.
Thank you.
