When Should The Mirena Be Inserted?

I am a 25 year old female, 5'6", 200lbs. I am supposed to get a mirena tomorrow. I have never had children, and my doctor prescribed 200 mcg tablet for me to take vaginally before the procedure, in order to soften my cervix and lessen the pain. How far in advance should I insert the tablets?

Hello,

Yes, you are right. We give a tablet called Misoprostol to soften your cervix, which will reduce the pain. You have to take it vaginally 4 to 6 hours before the procedure.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prathima, OB & GYN Specialist
