What To Do If Natural Remedies Have No Effect On Hives Which Are Painful And Itchy?
My husband has hives all over his body and its driving him made with itching. He has taken natural remedies however not giving him relief. Not sure what has caused it. He had a lot of sea food = oysters and scallaps for tea on Wednesday then started itching. Dr gave him prednisone of which he took one in morn and by accident 1 in afternoon on Thursday in stead of next day. Has been on natural remedies since but no relief. It is painful and itchy. Help
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. I understand that your husband is suffering from hives, which is medically termed as acute urticaria. A common trigger for urticaria is sea food. He could continue oral prednisolone ( you have not mentioned the dose given) for 5 consecutive days. He could also take antihistamines like oral fexofenadine in the morning and Benadryl at bedtime. If the itching is still persisting, he may need injectable steroids for 2-3 days. It is better that he avoids eating sea food , especially the ones that triggered this episode. He could also apply calamine lotion frequently on the rashes, which could give a soothing effect. Hope this helps you. Take care.
