What Is The Cause Of Bad Breath And Cough?

My daughter is complaining her throat hurts when she swallows. It is not red and there are not white patches on it, but the taste buds on the back of her tongue look swollen and she has a little bit of a cough. She also has bad breath that brushing her teeth does not help. What could cause this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood the history related to your daughter who had ''foetor'', the pain in throat while swallowing, large taste bud on tongue and so on.

The reasons are as follows:
The buds on the back of the tongue are in fact lingual tonsils and are enlarged due to infection in the throat.
The foetor has many reasons, and in her case looks to be infection in the throat or the respiratory tract or sinuses for which we need to investigate further.
The pain while swallowing indicates that there may be inflammation in the hypopharynx - lower down for which an ENT endoscopy is required.

I would advise her the following:
First of all get a consultation of an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation and examination, Endoscopy of the Ear, nose and throat to decide the probable cause; this to be followed by CT scan and tests of blood, urine and sputum.
Appropriate long courses of antibiotic and supportive medicines will help her to get a cure.
I find this answer helpful
