What Is The Cause For A Bump In My Thumb That Led To A Huge Bump After I Peeled It?

Hi, I have a bump in my thumb that started about 4 days ago, it started with a scar I got, I peeled of the scar and the next time I noticed it was a huge bump that looked like a wart . At first I thought it was a wart but my dad told me it was most likely not a wart because it hurts every time I touch it. Inside it has yellow stuff that looks like pus but when I press it nothing comes out, the outside is peely and dry. I have no idea what it is or what to do.

Hi,

I can understand your concern for bump in your thumb that led to a huge bump after you peeled it.

This may be basically infection and inflammation of thumb area which got secondarily infected after your peeling and pinching the skin.

The most important precaution to follow is to not to try to even touch or pinch the area as can cause more aggravation of the problem and spread of the infection. For time being period you can apply antibiotic cream such as fucidin or mupirocin and take pain killer tablets such diclofenac or paracetamol.

If it is increasing despite the treatment then meet a dermatologist or any family physician and get a proper treatment without delay for the oral antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin or cefadroxyl 500 mg two times a day for 5 days to prevent secondary infection.

Take care.
